Britton is progressing and it can't be soon enough that he joins the team to get Hunter out of the rotation. Jake I think, as I have thought for a while, is destined to become a dominant closer/back end rotation guy. He pitches great for a few innings but then loses focus and feel for his pitches and starts walking too many guys or leaving pitches in the middle of the plate.
Matusz is becoming very dominant. Where are all the haters and detractors, ahem ahem Papi and Sparky.
He has an ERA 2.87 over his last 5 starts and is looking like Matusz at the end of 2010. I still think he becomes the best pitcher on the team by season end just as I did before the season started.
Gotta love those small sample sizes.
So considering that Matusz can't possibly be bad without some sort of excuse...what is it this time? |

Reason: He's God Awful He's way beyond a talented young pitcher trying to get his major league game face on. He's just not very good. |

He's one of those "too good for Triple-A, but can't figure out the majors", type of guy. Even Kei Igawa and Joba Chamberlain had a good start here and there. |

#232 Posted: 7/1/2012 8:44:04 PM Guys his fastball is now 89-91 mph....and when he isn't hitting his spots he has issues...Tillman 1.95 ERA @ AAA returns...
If you'd of told me the O's would be in 2nd in the AL east on July 1st on April 1st I'd say you were drunk...
Starting pitching and clutch hitting have been horrible the last 2 weeks...
Can they stay afloat...Honestly I'd be shocked..But Getty were still ahead of your Rays..... |

#233 Posted: 7/1/2012 9:12:50 PM I'm impressed that the O's are where they are still. Especially with no Markakis and Jones not at 100%. But I also still think this is more smoke and mirrors than substance and I fully expect them to level out in the 2nd half.
And I'm certain the Rays will play better in the 2nd half as well as the Red Sox when they get Buchholz, Ellsbury, Crawford and Bailey back. That team is crippled right now. |

Had Tommy John surgery. Then, while recovering, really fucked up his ankle playing on his trampoline with his kid. Nothing is confirmed but he says he'll be back by the end of the season. |

#237 Posted: 7/5/2012 3:49:23 PM Maybe they should have kept Matusz in there to pitch at Safeco. If there is any place to get some confidence...that sure would be near the top.
We have to see what Tillman does after this. Can't look into a start against the Mariners or A's. |

#238 Posted: 7/5/2012 7:13:09 PM i agree, mariners are the worst in hitting. But I am pleased to see the birds turn things around ...should have been a sweep. Man if you guys didn't come back we would only be 4 back .... Tillman's next start against detroit at camden will be a true test
Wei-Yin Chen recorded 6 1/3 perfect ininnings to propel the Orioles to a much needed win Tuesday night. Although Chen did not factor in as the winning pitching due to a few earned runs later in the game; Chen was the clear MVP Tuesday night.

#241 Posted: 8/23/2012 5:13:23 PM The O's have proven me wrong. I can come up with some excuses but I will not and give credit where credit is do because even with excuses I didn't expect them to stick around as long as they have. Even if they finish below .500 by season's end (which I don't expect at this point), I still think they have "something". They finally put together a bullpen that can lock it down. The concern, however, is that starting rotation. Only 3 pitchers are over 100 innings at this point. They continue to put things together and keep on trucking, which is probably the most impressive part about this team this season.
It took a while...but congrats on proving me wrong (aside from Matusz and Wieters offensively). Still plenty of season to go but it looks like I'll be waiting on next year to see if this is sustainable.

#244 Posted: 8/31/2012 1:21:28 PM Well...I bit the bullet and gave the O's credit. So I guess I'll continue to be honest...

#247 Posted: 9/1/2012 10:47:59 AM Make the playoffs or not, This season has been a success for the O's.. they have nothing to lose now and it's beginning to show. I might be the only dude in south Florida rocking the O's license plates and game hat! Go O's |
