Rumor going around the area is Calhoun is going to retire before the season and could possible retire as soon as tomorrow. (Rumored there is a 2 pm press conference)
It is bittersweet to see Calhoun retire as he has done more for UConn and the state of CT as just about any person in the past 50 years. UConn is because of Jim Calhoun and the football programs expansion is also because of Calhoun. He has brought so many great memories for every UConn fan and resident of CT. Yes he was smug and abrasive but thats what made Calhoun so great. He was the underdog and fought for everything every game. He had not quit and thats why his players loved playing for him and what made him such a great coach. He was difficult and intimidating to play for because he wanted nothign but the best from his players and want them to want to win just as bad as he did.
It has been a great career.
Kevin Ollie is rumored to be named Head Coach with Karl Hobbs being promoted to assistant and lead recruiter. Ollie has great connections recruiting wise and a long NBA career. He knows what it takes and has been around Calhoun for a long time. Recruits also have had great things to say about Ollie since he has come aboard at UConn. The future with Ollie and a new state of the art bball complex will keep UConn as a top program.

He had health problems before probation didn't care to leave then did he? And if he's gonna quit then quit in april so you can get a coach that's legitimate

Packers you have zero idea what you are talking about.
He broke his hip and is not far removed from back surgery. At 70 you don't heal as quickly. He has beaten cancer 3 times and took a nothing school in the middle of nowhere and turned them into a bball powerhouse.
Quiter he is not and for you to say such is asinine.
Ollie is not a nobody coach. Get a clue. Calhoun wanted to come back but his health won't allow that. He will still be around the players and team all year just not on the bench.
Calhoun wanted Ollie and by deciding to retire now he get his way with Ollie taking over. All the current players and recruits knew Calhoun was on the brink of retiring and 2013-14 recruits were have been told for a while Ollie was taking over since recruiting them last year

I agree with Packers if the program wasn't on probation he'd still be coaching!!! That said, I don't blame him for leaving with all his medical issues.

How is going to practices games and being involved with the team daily= quitting?
He is a mentor and advisor/CEO/assistant bball AD now. He will be just as involved just not on the bench and doing all the other everyday responsibilities that come with headcoach.
Ollie press conference was amazing. He will keep uconn elite no doubt. Also Calhoun stepping down now allows Ollie to coach this year with zero pressure and expectations while becoming acclimated with his new position
