Huge Sooner fan. Was witness to one of the greatest runs in the history of college sports. Saw many great victories. I've seen one great victory in the past 20yrs he really can't take credit for but I have seen him blow many that he gets credit for.

Read the first post of the thread. It's called "Reading Comprehension 101" honor student.

here we go again, joe wash talking trash over a keyboard.

Do you realize NO ONE likes you? Do you realize EVERYONE sees you as worthless?

So you bash your own team, so the sooner fans rag on you, then you act holier than thou to anyone else.

So I got a nice little proposition for ya, brah.

You live in Texas, and so do I. How bout we meet up and see how tough you really are? You can even bring your little keyboard if that make you feel special.

Cmon old man river, step up.

165...    I'm flattered by the compliment. Thank you. Some folks think this site is for posting picks. Some folks think it's to post picks along with a little intelligent opinion. Some of those folks aren't capable of a little intelligent opinion. Then when they can't provide even that little intelligent opinion they get frustrated and resort to name-calling. Just like they did in the 6th grade.

All I ever ask is that if someone doesn't agree with something I say then come at me with some intelligent opinion as to why and I'lI have a civil, intelligent discussion with you. But sometimes I just can't resist when they act the fool. At least I hope that my retaliation is entertaining. I do and I have fun with it and I think this site can use a little fun.

And the Longhorns can be such easy prey that sometimes it's just irresistable.

Seriously some people on this site need brain surgery starting with who just joined this month. I said I graduated from OU I think in this thread. However I am objective. Everything I have seen is the TRUTH. OU lost by 1 pt in a BCS bowl against what proved to be Boise State a team that has for a long time has been a good team. They aren't Nicholls State and then OU lost to WV who is a very good team in a BCS. If people think that the team with the best players always win in college football is retarded. This is not the NFL where talent runs supreme. My entire point is OU gets railed on because they don't win every single game or bowl game. I dont think OU is some unbeatable team. Name one team that is?? Go back to 2000 and tell me what team you would take versus OU each and every year Would you rather be Bama? They are great now but were horrible several years. I have said that I think OU will struggle especially on the road because of 4 major injuries and suspensions. I don't think OU plays for the Big XII champ this year but I also know that I would rather not be any other team over the last 12 years I dont care what team it is. Not FL, FSU, Bama, LSU or anyone else because they may have had a few good years but nobody is even close to OU. I have no idea about OU this week because OU hasn't played anyone but historically OU  at home off a bye against a ranked team. I wouldnt be all over Kstate.  All these people that talk about OU and this and that then just tell me another team. Jack what is your team and tell me how they are unbeatable.

It's not that they lost to Boise St by 1 point genius. It's how they lost. Do you have any idea how many times Switzer used the hook-and-ladder to pull out late game wins over Nebraska and Texas?

You talk about losing to West Virginia...a very good team. Not a great team..a very good team. Well, when you lose to a very good team does that make you "just good"? And you're willing to settle for "just good"???

And again...you miss the point. I love the team..the school..the program. But they are under-coached and that has resulted in "many" big-game losses and embarrassing losses. I'm raggin the coach. The team, the school and the program are only his victims.

And let me say this. I saw Pruitt, Washington, Sims and Dupree play. And many other backs who weren't far behind. Those guys were truly great running backs. Adrian Peterson was/is better than all of them. And btw, Stoops never visited with Peterson personally during recruitment. They knew better. So how does a Sooner team with the greatest back in their history dominate what at the time was a little known Boise St team up and down the field all night long and lose the game by allowing them to convert 2 4th downs in the final minute of play and then use Switzer's signature play...the play that helped create "Sooner Magic" to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. Like I said earlier. The look on Stoops face was like George Bush's when his aid leaned over and whispered in his ear that the twin towers were gone. He looked like he'd just garbage his pants. And Stoops looks like he just garbage the bed....Because he did.

I'll say it again. Sooners might win on Saturday even cover. Regardless, Stoops will still be out coached. The team will have won in spite of him.

So let's vote. You start a team today and Snyder and Stoops are the same age.....who do you pick?

How can anyone seriously talk to someone who compares Barry Switzer to Stoops and that era versus this era. Switzer NEVER RECRUITED EVER AT ALL. He never left the STATE. He picked who he wanted and they came to play for OU. He lost 29 games in 16 years. He dominated his best rival in Osborne when Nebraska dominated at the same time. Next thing you are going to tell me is Osborne is a horrible coach. He had a LOSING bowl record. Does that make him a bad coach? I have no idea how Snyder even got into this conversation. He a good coach but OU outclasses them every year. Snyder was there last year when they got trounced at home by 41. How much better could OU be? I have asked and will ask again will ANYONE I mean anyone give me another team that you would rather have.  This conversation is going nowhere. You would have to have a time travel machine to satisfy this guy.

As if Barry Switzer didn't have any bad losses.  He had three straight four loss seasons from '81 to '83.  He had the luxury of most years not having to beat the 2nd best team in the country, at the end of the season, to win a NC.  And he had plenty of "bad" losses.  How about those losses to Miami?  How about the loss to Arkansas in the Orange Bowl that might have cost us a NC?  His record against UT was no better than Bob's.  Switzer only had one undefeated season, same as Bob, during a time of college football when undefeated seasons were easier to come by.

Switzer tales: Switzer signs the 1975 class...and never leaves the state.

Posted by Berry Tramel, The Daily Oklahoman

Barry Switzer says the best rule college football has instituted was banning head coaches from personally attending the signing of letters of intent. Maybe so. The old days could wear out a coach and create all kinds of political problems. But they sure were wild and fun.

Switzer’s wildest day as a head coach might have been Feb. 19, 1975. National signing day. “A free-for-all,” Switzer said. “My biggest problem is who I had to sign first.” 1975 was the year OU signed 19 of the 19 players on the Dallas Times-Herald’s blue-chip list, a recruiting haul that is beyond duplication. And signing day took Switzer on a wild ride. He had a tough choice to make initially; start out with Kenny King in Clarendon TX or Billy Sims on the other side of the state in Hooks Texas. They were the two best running backs in Texas recalls Switzer, though Sims was clearly the bigger catch. He was the Adrian Peterson/Marcus Dupree of the day. So Switzer hatched a plan. He told Sims why not wait a day or two to sign; go into hiding, don’t sign and let everyone wonder about the big mystery. Then after signing day, Sims would become an even bigger story and could get all the headlines to himself. Plus he would have Texas thinking now they had a chance. “Coach, that’s a hell of an idea” Sims said.

Seems like a big gamble, telling the nation’s best high school football player to hold off. But Sims already idolized Switzer after watching his success starting in 71. He started idolizing Switzer on the dusty streets of Hooks Texas.

Switzer wasn’t really trying to give Sims the solo stage. He wanted to make sure he signed King. So the night before signing day off to Clarendon went Switzer. These days coaches can’t recruit the two days before signing day. But then it was open season and Switzer used it to his advantage. No other coach in the country had Switzer’s charisma and knack for connecting with players, especially the black players. He picked up King and his girlfriend and went to the pool hall and shot snooker deep into the night.

So the only thing you care about is NC's?  No victory can be "great" unless it's beating somebody in a NC game?  That may be the lamest thing I've ever read on the internet.

And I may be in the minority, but for the most part, I don't give a sh*t about our bowl record, save the National Championship games.  Who cares?  They don't mean anything.  They aren't part of a playoff.  They are suppose to be a reward for the players.  Not sure when so much meaning became attached to them.  If I were an OU player, and we started the season ranked in the top 5, I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be excited to be playing in any bowl game except the BCS Championship Game.  Other than that, I probably come out flat.  Why not?  For teams like Boise, that is their biggest game ever.  That OU game, even had they lost, was probably the biggest Boise game ever.

Switzer Recruiting Story:

Switzer was visiting a prized Texas running back recruit in West Texas. He parks his rental car on the street in front of the house. It's getting dark and he walks up the sidewalk then sneaks around to the backyard and peeks through a window into the kitchen to see mom fixing dinner and a six-pack of Pearl on the kitchen table. Switzer goes around to the front door and rings the bell. Recruits father and son invite him into the living room and sit down.

Father says to Switzer, “how about a beer Barry”? Switzer shoots back, ”only if it’s a Pearl”……Game Over.

Lets just hope everyone feels the same way about Snyder vs. Stoops and keeps betting the line down.
