I could only go back 9 years because that's as far as
Covers has boxscores, but here are the 1st Half point totals in the
Navy/Air Force game the past 9 years.
2003 - 24 2004 - 20 2005 - 24 2006 - 21 2007 - 24 2008 - 26 2009 - 17 2010 - 10 2011 - 24
That's an average of 21.11 points per 1st half, with the highest point total for any 1st half in the last 9 years being 26.
The 1st half point total in this year's game is 27.

#5 Posted: 10/4/2012 1:12:08 PM Point total is so high because neither defense can get off the field. Both are near the bottom at preventing 3rd down conversions. AF will probably go over by themselves in the first half. |

#6 Posted: 10/4/2012 1:13:19 PM I could see this going either way. Air Force has scored 28, 10, 28, 35 in the first half this year with the 10 coming against Michigan. Navy is awful and could give up the 27 in the first half. I would tread lightly |

#7 Posted: 10/4/2012 1:14:03 PM Oh and I forgot. They've been failing against crap teams to boot. SOS of each over 100. |

What either team's defensive stats are against conventional offenses is in consequential. Neither will be playing against conventional offenses. They will be playing against offenses that they know how to defend the best - the triple option offense.
Moreover, Navy has struggled to score against anyone respectable. They've scored a grand total of 17 points against 3 FBS teams in three games. Their QB has struggled so badly there was talk of benching him for this game.

This will stay under the 1st half total again, probably way under.

Point taken as always when I hear what you have to say but both of them just have fared so poorly against poor offenses I just don't think that either of these teams have the athletes to play defense against any offense including the option offense they both run at each other. Navy puts points up and it goes over.
Waiting patiently for your other ideas. Can't miss read every week.

Navy's defense hasn't surrendered a touchdown in the last two games. Defense is the one thing they are pretty good at. This is a huge rivalry game. Expect another strong performance out of Navy's defense again this week. Navy's offense, on the other hand, not so much. They've been abysmal all season.
This game has defensive struggle written all over it.
