#27 Posted: 7/13/2012 10:30:54 PM Dude you need to learn about U.S. importing. First off the U.S. can afford high trade deficits with countries like China because
China and other countries from which we buy consumer goods turn around
and invest roughly $500 billion a year of their capital in the U.S.
economy.
Economic theory alone tells us that if we ever reach the point where it
becomes a problem, there is an automatic adjustment mechanism, which is
that the dollar will fall in value. When the dollar
falls, then that makes U.S. exports cheaper on the international market
in terms of foreign currencies and it makes imports more expensive in
terms of dollars. Pretty simple.

#32 Posted: 7/13/2012 10:52:03 PM gfinger,
When is this "automatic adjustment mechanism" suppose to kick in as the dollar continues to plummet? (It's even lower than the AUD) Sending Hillary and Tim Geithner over to China seems to produce very little result.
Also what's the point of having a weak dollar policy when very little carries the "Made the USA" label anymore?
Not a money guy, but curious to want to know. Thanks. |
