That was the first and probably last time any of us will see a intentional grounding penalty called when a quarterback does not have someone hanging on him and the ball lands 50 yards downfield.  That was the difference in the game in my opinion.

if they had a training video for refs to teach them what intentional grounding looks like, they could use that play as a perfect example.

brady was in the pocket with a defender running at him and he threw the ball away not near any receivers.  that, by definition, is intentional grounding.

incidentally, brady had receivers on the sidelines and could have thrown it away there and avoided the safety but he fucked up and threw it down the middle of the field near no one.

I am from Boston.... I would be embarassed to whine like a little girl about that call that was correct and not blame the mistakes and dropped passes...Pats lost because of their play not because of that call.. Keep searching for excuses !

The reason the call is so bad is that who is to say that Tom Brady thought his receiver was going deep down the middle and instead he could  have broke off his route or gave up on the play.  The ball clearly sailed over a receivers head in the middle of the field.  They showed it with a red line of the ball trajectory on ESPN.

That play was DEFINITELY intentional grounding.

Anyone who argues is a Pats Fan / Backer.

How about the blatant pass interference call they missed with 8 minutes left when Chung raped Manningham before the ball gor there.

Well considering pass interference is when the defender makes contact with the receiver before the ball arrives, I have eyes and he clearly hit him before the ball arrived.

Talk about blown calls that could have cost the game, how about the bogus offensive holding penalty called against the Giants with 4 minutes left in the first half? Instead of 1st down inside Pats 40, Giants packed up on their side of the field with 3rd and long, then forced to punt. Even the announcers at the time thought it was a bad call. NFL Films broadcast other night had refs recorded, head ref thought it was a flop. After the 3rd down play refs went up to Wilfork and asked him if he was held or if he spun and flopped. He said I flopped it and you guys blew the call. Instead of possible half ending drive and Giants scoring they give the ball up to Pats who score. Without that bad call it coulda been 16-3 halftime.

On the Brady safety, none of his receivers were going downfield of stopped a route, all were doing crossing route ten yards past line of scrimmage. He threw the ball 30-40 yards downfield. The microphone on NFL Films caught Brady telling the offensive coordinator he had to throw the ball away because of the pressure. He made a bad decision, clear and simple.
