1-3 yesterday
today: toronto, washington, sanfran

question: Most of what I've read says to bet from 1 to 5 percent of your bankroll on games. Is that from your original or current roll? Do you increase or decrease the size of your bet as your balance changes?

I appreciate your post

IMO don't bother. I bet 2% on most plays, never more than 10% on one game. Adjust the bet size when you get to some benchmark. For example say you start with $2000 and bet 40 a game. Bet 50 when you reach 2500. bet 100 when you reach 5000.

I have one set amount for a one unit.. and i wager accordingly depending on how much I like the play.

here is the best money management tip you will ever get:
On Sunday when you think you're hot garbage because you are beating your book for a good chunk of money bet a $100 parlay. Although most frown on parlays they have money management built in.
I've seen $100 gamblers up 2 grand going into Sunday and bet 4 games for 500 apiece, go 0-4, and owe their book 200 for the week.

There are many schools of thought on money management. I started betting 1 unit (500) on a single game per day until I'm up 4 units, then I increase to 2 units. If I win I continue betting 2 units until I'm up 8 units and if I lost and went under the 4 unit mark I would decrease back to one unit.

Apache that's good advice for craps and cards but never on games or events. It takes more time to build a bankrole than to lose your bankrole.I say if you start with 5000 bet 150 until you get to 15000 then bet 350 until you get 30000.after that 30000 start over at 150 and do it again! Put your money in a mma account and let the interest place your next bet after it matures in 6 mos

I am sorry but a few of these responses are terrible and are the basic reasons for all the bright lights in Vegas. Common way among "Smart" money is 1unit is 1% of bankroll. Most play 1-2 unit plays at that beginning of the season. A benchmark is set of when the will begin betting more unit. I have often seen +50 units as a benchmark. When you increase units dont change your strategy ie. if you are betting 1 and 2 unit plays only go to 2 and 4 unit plays. If you were playing 1 1.5 and 2 unit plays play 2,3, and 4 unit plays. etc. Regardless you must have discipline.

I should of also stated when the week is over I revert right back to a 1 unit play and have done this all season this year.

1-2% of bankroll per play only!!!!!
If you want to get rich, rob a bank so you can start with a larger bankroll.

Vanzack: So if that is bad advice, then what is the better thing to do.  Pressing on losing streaks is what always kills people.

Let's say you start your bankroll with $10k. At 5%, you decided to make 4 $500 bets. If you lose all four bets, you are down to $8k. With your next bet, do you continue to make $500 bets or do you decrease your bets to 5% of $8k, $400?

I know no everyone uses 5%, or bets 1 unit per game. But if and when you go on a losing streak, do you decrease your bets or stay consistent with your amounts?

I stay consistent with 1% of original bankroll and that stays 1 unit for the year. Oly increase units played after +50 units. I am jus intersted in a steady grind it out year as I NEVER play more than 3 units per play until that +50 unit mark is reached.
