#3 Posted: 7/27/2012 2:43:54 AM he's coming back? haven't seen him in years. this will, definitely, be a good wager.

#4 Posted: 7/27/2012 2:48:06 AM He used to pitch for the Brewers and was one of there best starters for a few years. He had some decent numbers. From what I understand he had Tommy John surgery and just came back and has looked great in his first few starts for the Braves allowing no runs thus far. |

#5 Posted: 7/27/2012 2:56:50 AM As a Braves fan, who probably watches or attends 150 out of the 162 games during the regular season. Hes a crafty pitcher, his breaking ball is downright nasty. I missed his 2nd start last week, but in game 1 after the braves got him,he was so impressive. Idc who u play if you can go 12innings of scoreless baseball after tommy john surgery, you have still got it. Turns out he only had the surgery so he would be able to throw with his little boy.If hamels wasnt on the mound this would be a no brainer. I still lean braves , but it could go either way imho. probably doesnt make sense, ive had a few beers tonight . good luck on your decision |

#7 Posted: 7/27/2012 3:12:56 AM Yeah, before Sheets had the surgery, I'd say he was easily in the top 5 in MLB for downright nastiness in terms of stuff. Based upon how he's thrown since his return, I'd say he and Hamels are on a pretty level playing field right now, though let's please realize Sheets is not god and will eventually give up runs.
In 3 of the last 4 full seasons he pitched, his era was 3.82, 3.82 and 4.53. God he is not. However, his era in 08 was 3.09.
Can he out duel Hamels? You bet. But for tomorrow's game, they are even.
I would play the Phils over the Braves tomorrow though. Braves hit .245 vs lefties. Phils hit .264 vs righties and that has largely been without Utley/Howard.

#8 Posted: 7/27/2012 3:14:49 AM Can I also just add for the original poster, please make your wagers using some kind of statistical information. Nothing wrong with the question, but a quick look at the covers matchup page would show you Sheets history.
For the sake of your wallet, I hope you are not blind betting.

#9 Posted: 7/27/2012 3:21:00 AM ben sheets would have been REALLY REALLY REALLY good prior to needing surgery. that said, since his return from the 2 years off, he has been great.
tough matchup vs hamels tho
better games on the board imo

#14 Posted: 7/27/2012 7:24:28 AM This question is about as equivalent to asking who was nolan ryan if we were to go back to 1975.
Ben has had HUGE strikeout numbers without the benefit of being on a good team to accumulate wins, similarly to Nolan Ryan.
