From 8 to 10 teams.

The non-division winners in each league with the two best records will be the wild card teams, meaning it is now possible for a third-place team to reach the postseason. Each's league's wild card pair will face off in a one-game playoff.

So, this is official for this season or not yet? Or are they going to announce on what the decision is?

Nevermind Sparky. They're going to announce that they will expand to 10 teams. Sorry...and thank you.

Not sure what to think of this.  Interestingly, it actually puts a bigger premium on winning the division.  Before, it really didn't matter whether you got in by winning division or getting wildcard.  Now it does.  Still seems unfair that an 82 game division winner skates into the playoffs while a 95 win wildcard team has to win a single elimination game just to get in.

This should make the last couple weeks of baseball season even more enticing to gambling degenerates.  I am licking my chops already, waiting to fade those overpriced chalks and cash some easy plus-money dog tickets.

doesn't bother me 1 way or the other i still believe the wildcard is still not at enough of a disadvantage. But it is what it is. Doesn't change my picks nor i bet

doubleup i believe in a 5 game series the wildcard team should get 1 home game and in a 7 game series 2 home games. I've felt this way for 15 years. While the 2nd wildcard team helps i still believe the wildcard team is still not at enough of a disadvantage. Just my opinion

I wish they would just get rid of divisions and play a balanced schedule with the top 4 teams from the AL and NL making the playoffs.  A one game playoff for a wild card is pretty lame.

sparky, Yankees made a lot of great moves this off season, they should be the favorite imo...
