Because they haven't gotten the job done so far.
And just because they need to win doesn't mean they need to cover the inflated spreads.
And the team they are playing against? Well, maybe they have nothing left to play for except to be a spoiler. They will be loose, they will take chances. They would like nothing better than to end your season. And a lot of these games are divisional rivalries.
Perfect examples are the Giants/Redskins or Colts/Titans. Giants as a road favorite? Really?
Just thought I'd put that thought in your head. Good luck today.
I remember reading about a trend a few years back that favored teams that were out of contention vs teams going for a playoff spot or position. I have been trying to research that trend this week but was not able to find anything, having said that I just loaded up on the Browns +7 |

#29 Posted: 1/2/2011 12:34:25 PM Great Post and yet a bunch of Idiots are still going to lose because of the "Have to Win" scenerio today. You do make a great point but more than likely the ones betting teams because the "must win" are the same ones that come on here saying games are a "lock". Thanks for the insight 3rd. I like the more meaning less games where back ups that actually are looking to earn a pay check play their fools off. I do also agree with Tenn, that team is a train wreck and not so much because of Fisher, there is just no leadership on that team. No one that cares enough to step up. BOL on this week 17. |

Sorry but you're wrong. Teams that were technically "still alive" with a week 17 win did not all cover. Houston was -9 against New England but only won by 7. Baltimore was laying 10 in Oakland and won by 8. Miami and Pittsburgh was a wash because if Miami won they would have had the head to head tiebreaker over the Steelers. The Broncos were alive and got crushed by Kansas City. Jets were the only "must win" team to cover the spread |

#31 Posted: 1/3/2011 5:56:35 PM So of the 4 must win or go home teams yesterday, none of them covered the inflated lines Giants, Colts, Packers, and Jaguars all burned their backers money, just like last year, and the year before that, etc. |

this year, yes, they didnt cover but again, im sorry, but ur wrong..
the only team that didnt win last year that had to win was denver. i forgot about that one.
the texans line never went to 9, i dont know where ur getting that info. the line settled at 7 after hearing of the possible sit downs and obvious public favorite late money funnelling through the books, the line opened much smaller. miami wasnt a wash they were already eliminated the pevious week. the tie breakers meant nothing because tieing pittsburgh meant they were out of the playoffs. that game only meant to pittsburgh which had a shot and thats why the win still didnt get them in the post season. |

#33 Posted: 1/4/2011 1:53:01 AM Does being "due for a win" work out better?
How about "I cant see [player] (manning, brady, etc) losing this one"?
