#106 Posted: 6/21/2011 7:27:42 PM A couple years ago my buddy was working at a restaurant in vegas and Floyd Mayweather Jr came in with a large group of people. He offered to cover everyones bill in his section and left a grand tip on top of it. Definitely lived up to the money mayweather nickname that night.

#107 Posted: 6/21/2011 9:26:28 PM I worked in Nova Scotia, Canada. Mostly 10-15%. When we go to the states we should tip more but the U.S. money used to cost us a fortune . I enjoy tipping 25% to people who act like they are happy when you tip, some people act like they deserve it regardless. I went to many resorts down south. All inclusives are awesome. The drinks are free but when you give the mexicans 5 bucks anyway they remember and give you the best service ever. 5 bucks in egypt and you are king, they might kill you later but you will get beer at light speed. A beer still costs 4-5 bucks but they only make a couple dollars a month.
The thing about tipping is the service. If you want to wait while everyone else gets served first then don't tip. If you do they remember, especially if they are poor.

#108 Posted: 6/22/2011 12:30:24 AM Been the hospitality industry for ever. Big company's and small. Brit's and other European countries have service charges built in the final bill but when in Rome (Canada), tourists should follow local tipping procedures. Hell, if Frommer's tells you, than do it.
Canadians in the USA used to tip shitty b/c of the exchange, now there's no excuse.
As stated before, industry folk tip industry folk great b/c they know the BS involved. This past week I had military dudes in every night, half left me NOTHING. Really weak on their part considering govt reimburses them.
Anyways, back to topic.

You do know he makes less than you do, right? His average fight purse was less than 10k. Subtract corner and promoter fees, add a shitty endorsement deal and he is probably broke as darn. Real talk. |

You need to repost that in the boxing forum under the Zouk thread about Mayweather being hypocritical.. |

Best tippers - Charles Barkley was very good...Bas Ruten and Ken Shamrock...
Strippers always tipped well but they usually were gettin comp drinks and ordering different multiple liquor drinks ,shooters etc..USUALLY A PAIN IN THE behind
People rolling on extascy and leaving a five spot for a free cup of water...Yea i could of charged them 3 bucks for a bottle water ...But i could make so much on tips giving out cups of water..
I almost always give out cups of water unless the customer specifically asks for bottles. Not only do you get a better tip, but you are usually serving better water (depending on where you live) to the customer. Not to mention you keep plastic/waste consumption down more that way.
I always offer a lemon or lime, gives the customer a decision to make like they are actually ordering a drink. People high or rolling think it's really nice when you take the time to offer them something else with the water, even if it is just a garnish.
Cherries are really popular with people who you think may be high off their behind. |

Janet is a degenerate gambler. I spent the entire weekend of the celebrity golf tournament in Tahoe 2009 in the high roller room with her. She was betting anywhere from 5-25K per hand of blackjack and playing 2-3 hands at a time. Wayne is a box, she definitely wears the pants.
I have never served but I heard from friends her in Phx that Stephon Marbury was a total stiff. Would rack up hundreds of dollars on a tab in a nice restaurant chain here called Houston's - never left a dime. |

I'm sorry but this is the friggin problem with servers.....10% is not "nothing" it's 10 percent. Just because they have more money than you doesn't mean they should give it to you. I'd like to see a thread of celebrities that got shitty service or a thread that talks about how servers and bartenders bother the darn out of them, instead of just doing their job and serving them. |

Believe what you want, but I'm almost 20% across the board and that's because I'm a gracious guy. I give money to panhandlers too. I come from nothing and have made a good living through dedication and hard work. I know what it's like to be broke and how a little that doesn't matter much to me can go along ways to someone without. I just don't understand how a server can just expect someone to tip them a certain percentage based on their income. "You have lots, give more to me". |

MJ was a stiff. He loves his money. Then turnaround and lose 125,000 at BJ.
Barkley always 2 Thumbs up.

Celebrity struck people are embarrassing to themselves sometimes. Not going to name drop but I have been around alot of big names here and there. To hang with someone who is somewhat high profile at a bar or some public event, you will see what I am talking about.

#119 Posted: 6/22/2011 8:27:58 PM I understand you have to earn your tips. I've been there . but the $2.20 per hour doesn't cut it. I feel bad stiffing even the snottiest server. though they may deserve it. How about the oppossite...leaving a great tip, 40-50% and being treated like you owed that to them. what a mind darn |
