both at once... *big cost is use of the surgery center.....starting at 5K or so.....so of course 2 surgeries recommended
Anyone with no insurance and need hernia surgery?....
Just had mine done last June in Thailand....(indirect inguinal)....in Chiang Mai.....at Chiang Mai Ram Hospital
YES...air is $1000 +...... but for (more than you need) pre-surgery stuff...consultation + blood work + X-Rays
plus surgeon/anesthesiologist fees + 1 night SUITE + too many pain killers = $1400 or so
PLUS....a very young and hot nurse checking in on me every 10 minutes or so....
*you can eat for less than $10/day...and get a very nice room for $50......I stayed at a very nice inn for $25/day
*the surgeon responded to my emails himself....explaining the exact method he would use (open mesh).....I couldn't get anybody around here to discuss anything.....very few interested in cash customers.....the place in Houston...one in Vegas.....and one in S. Cal it seems....all $6500+... up front .... and that's outpatient basis only
one of the smartest things I've ever done (short list).... very little pain....just very sore 1st day....much better day 2...just slight soreness day 3.... *day 2 was doing the devil's business with my VERY young Thai "GF"...... ... and YES.....these are very nice / modern hospitals ...2 friends of mine have had heart surgery in Thailand....both saved over 100K and were extremely happy....I have everything done over there dental....dermatologist .....whatever.... and recommend it highly....

You're f-ckin insane for having surgery in Thailand. I can see going to Germany for dental because they are about 50 years ahead of us. But to have heart surgery or hernia surgery let alone any surgery out of the USA where we have the very best doctors in the world is insane. Glad you didnt have a problem while trying to save a few dollars. Or better yet too bad you dont have good health insurance that allows you access to the best doctors in the world.

a thought shared by many but not accurate at all....
QUESTION: how many countries have you been to?... right.......
anything short of a brain tumor....or maybe if you're a Siamese twin in desperate need of separation.....sure the good ol' USA is probably the best.....
BUT......for relatively minor stuff.....many countries do a MUCH better job than you get here in USA.....AND....if you have anything serious....many of the top surgeons in Thailand (and other countries)....are US educated....> the heart surgeon that operated on my buddy was educated at Johns Hopkins *he is worth 10-15 mil.....and can go wherever he wants....(condition was deemed pre-existing).....
I've traveled all over the world....sure the USA is a fine place to live......all things considered But this ignorance/arrogance....."we are better than everybody else......at everything".......is silly
Wanna know the one thing we do better?......and I'm halfway serious..........BREAKFAST

After much research and consideration I decided to have both done at the same time on Feb. 2. What I found in researching hernia surgery is that there are several types of repair with pros and cons with each. I chose the Desarda Method. With Desarda the surgeon uses a part of your oblique to cover the hole rather than using mesh or tension repair. There are only a handful of surgeons in the U.S. that perform the Desarda Method and I was lucky enough to find that one of them was here in my city. The first 2 weeks post-op were pretty painful and it was extremely difficult to get in and out of bed. By week 3 things changed dramatically for the better. I'm walking 4-5 miles a day and able to do just about anything except lift over 20lbs (doc's orders). The surgeon also recommends a full 8 weeks after surgery before hitting the gym, so I'm looking forward to that and picking up my son again (he's 2 and weighs 35 pounds).
The difficult part is over and I'm hitting the home stretch. Thanks again to the well wishers and contributors. If anyone is contemplating this surgery feel free to pm me and I'll share everything I've learned about it.
