#76 Posted: 3/22/2012 9:38:34 AM Being hated goes along with being a Leaf fan. The reason a good majority of people hate the Leafs and Leaf fans is becuase we have the biggest fan base out there. Its not uncommon to see more Leaf fans in an opposing team's arena then fans of the home team. Just the way it is.
If you want are a Leaf fan you just deal with the haters - There are certainly enough of them.
I am certainly a Leaf fan first but a fan of hockey in general. It's great to see how Pittsburgh survived a threat of folding. They turned themselves from small market struggling team to powerhouse. It is going to be sad to see what happens there in ten years once Malkin, Crosby, and Stall are all past thier primes becuase they certainly not stocked with talent in the AHL.
You heard it here first - In three years the Leafs win the Eastern Conference and then finally bring back the Stanley Cup to Toronto and we dont want you back Mr. Malkin. Keep hating - we are used to it in Leafs Nation

What would lead you to believe Leafs will make the playoffs in 3 years? You feel this current group is close? |

#80 Posted: 3/22/2012 12:20:13 PM Pittsburgh was a shitty team that just got lucky it sucked during years when Malkin and Crosby were available.
Pens fans are like the spoiled little brats of the NHL.
Had Lemieux, Jagr, won cups, than they sucked, fans couldn't give two shits about their team and so Bettman saved them by giving them Crosby. So now hockey is back.

#81 Posted: 3/22/2012 1:53:15 PM @benhogan - Fair questions so you will now get a fair answer. Do i see this current group making the playoffs in three years you ask? I do not and nor did I suggest that the current group will make the playoff's in 3 years time.
Here are the facts - The Leafs AHL affiliate is currently in second in thier respective conference. They also have the second lowest goal's against - IN THE ENTIRE LEAUGE.
For all the heat that Brian Burke has taken for the big club, and rightfully so, he has made up for it in droves with what has happened with the AHL club. In a good percentage of his trade, he has aquired the other teams number one draft selection from a previous year. The marlies have many first round picks.
You will start to see those players making appearances next year - you will also see established players being traded for with those first rounders as commodoties.
We could speculate all we want about possile moves, trades, and aquisitions but the fact still remains the Leafs will have an influx of very capable players starting to emerge as quality big leaugers. THAT, benhogan, is why the leafs will be very competitive in three years time and making the playoffs will be a no brainer.
If you would like to offer a fact based opinion as to why you disagree, by all means please do.

Is there are direct correlation between having a good AHL team and success in the next few years? Not sure as a Leafs fan why you would back anything Burke has done.
I would say the last 50 or so years is arguement enough for me. |

Sad that you dont have enough power to formulate an educated and informed opinion. How does the last 50 years possible say to you that the leafs will not make the playoffs in the next three years ? Oh well, I thought I would get an engaging debate but once again I am let down. Best of luck to you and your Oilers. I am done with this thread

Please list these young guys who in 3 years will take the NHL by storm. You want an educated reponse to a comment like "Leafs win Eastern Conference in 3 years you heard it here first".
Still have to let me know how having good AHL for a year translates into a much better team in NHL.
Difference between Oilers and Leafs is we draft talent and our ownership wont pay to keep them around and Leafs draft garbage and have all the money in the world. |
