My two bowl season picks are:
#1 - LSU -3 (hook) vs. Clemson
- All year i wasn't very impressed with Clemson, they looked great against sh*tty competition, but really all they played was sh*tty competition. I've been waiting all year for them to play an SEC type team with a good defense that can run the ball. We got that matchup with S. Car and look what happened. Now we get an even better matchup with LSU. LSU will be able to shut down Clemson's offense (like S. Car did) with their great d-line dominating Clemson’s average offensive line. On the other side of the ball, Clemson will have no answer for LSU's physical run game. LSU will be able to do whatever they want in this game offensively, with the run setting up the pass and Mettenberger will actually have a great game.
- Clemson played the 70th toughest strength of schedule yet their defense gives up more than 400 yards per game. Their opponents run for 160, terrible recipe when going up against hardnosed LSU team. I could go on with this one, bottom line is Clemson is a finesse team, and LSU is the complete opposite. Clemson is going to get punched in the mouth.
#2 Wisconsin +7 vs. Stanford
- These teams are mirror images of each other, look at the statistics. They are both within 25 yards of each other offensively and defensively. They both have strong defenses and like to run the ball. This game is going to be a slugfest.
- This is Wisconsin's 3rd straight appearance to the Rose bowl, losing the previous 2 by 2 and 7 points. The previous two games were with Brett Bielema coaching. For some reason, Bielema has decided he wants to try his luck in the SEC so he's gone, in comes coaching legend (at least in the state of Wisc) Barry Alvarez who is 3-0 all time in Rose bowls. The players asked him to coach them, he said he would as long as 'there's no messing around, we're going to pasadena to win'. Wisconsin will be playing with their hair on fire in this game. The players are going to be sky high getting to play in the rose bowl for a coaching legend.
- The Big Ten has been bashed all season, Wisc will be coming to California with something to prove. In a game with 2 teams that are pretty even statistically, take the points & the legendary coach with a team that will be playing with a huge chip.
