Let's take a look at some facts.
Of 372 metropolitan areas, Las Vegas came in 358th place for unemployment. LV is clocking in with 14.9% unemployed.
LV was hit hard by the housing crisis. According to the article in the link below, in 2010 LV had 5 TIMES the national average of foreclosures.
In 2010 Nevada had the highest crime rate out of the 50 states( It should be noted that most residents of Nevada live in Clark County)
A Forbes article listed the LV metro area as the 4th most dangerous city in the USA.
Nevada was the 46th most depressed state in the country, and it fared even worse in suicides. Only Alaska had more.
A UNLV professor stated that Las Vegas is the least educated large city in the Western United States. Let's not even get into how bad the public schools are in Nevada.
Out of the 50 states Nevada came in 49th, with only New York having a worse volunteering rate. In a strange irony, Utah had double the rate of Nevada.
Vegas Gourmet- while things may be sunshine and kittens for you, the reality for a fair number of people there is quite different.
Wiseguy- good luck in your decision. I can say that I worked in a locals casino in LV for nearly 5 years, and it is by no means glamorous. It was indeed fun at first, but the novelty wore out after about a year. You will see the worst side of people on a nightly basis. Just know that going into it.
