I guarantee no other top capper in the world has Southern Utah, Greensboro, South Dakota and Cal Poly all on the same card!  Or even knows that they all have basketball teams, let alone can tell you their defensive schemes and has a great angle on them.

Nropp... Great write ups. Any thoughts on this loyala Maryland against Siena. Loyala already beat them and r at home. I'm leaning but can't pull the trigger.

Few things.

First, this isn't really the Penn State team of yesteryears. They're playing a bit faster, they don't have any patience, they force a ton of shots, and that's sort of the thing that Illinois and Bruce Weber has struggled with in past years, and something that a majority of the B-10 has struggled with as well. By speeding up the pace a bit, they're taking shots pretty early in the shot clock, and more shots generally means more offensive opportunities. That is the case here. They're playing faster b/c they're terribly inefficient on the offensive end. Which leads me to my second point. With Maniscalco still nursing an injury (he will play, but not expecting too much time), the guard defense for Illinois is maxed out. By saying maxed out, I mean the best three guard defenders are almost assuredly going to get the most minutes here, which helps out against an already not so great Penn State offense as I have pointed out. When you look at Penn State, they're pretty guard oriented w/ Frazier and Marshall. They both will shoot the long ball, but more often than not they want to get into the paint and either get up a shot, or create for someone else. If by chance that happens, and they're able to get into the lane, then.... My third point... Meyers Leonards standing there. Not only does the big man in the middle make an impact with what Penn State's going to do offensively, but I have no idea what they do from a defensive standpoint. They don't have a body to match up with him, and their best defender in the paint that see's the most minutes is Billy Oliver, and he's doubtful with an injury. I capped this with him playing, but him not playing is an added bonus, and this third point sort of leads into.... Number four...if they can't match-up with Leonard, then it's almost a given that they're going to play a zone. If you've followed my comments on Illinois this year, my greatest fear has been their offense looking abysmal in the half court. By Penn State speeding up the tempo and taking quicker shots and playing a zone defense, they're pretty much playing right into the Illinois strengths. They don't have to run the motion offense, they can pass the ball around and jack up a three. When they don't shoot a three, Bertrand can get into the paint, or they can toss it into Leonard to score over much smaller defenders, or Leonard can kick it back out for an open jump shot. As dumb as it sounds, everything Penn State will do tonight defensively, is everything Illinois is built to score on, and everything Penn State does offensively, is exactly what the Illinois defense is built to stop. Is it a letdown? Absolutely, Illinois just played their best game of the season. I take that back, Brandon Paul just played his best game of the season. So, the possibility for a letdown is there, but I'm willing to try and figure out why it isn't. The matchups, the extended time off, and most importantly getting a few players back into the mix. I already pointed out the return of Maniscalco. He hurts the defense, but he's the leader of the team. Second, Tyler Griffey probably gets back into action here against the zone. These were two starters at the beginning of the year that saw little to no time in the Ohio State win. Of course, complacency within the letdown and jacking up 3 after 3 could certainly be a bad thing. Bottom line, any fear I have of backing Illinois in a normal setting get thrown out the window here and Penn State adapting more to the Illinois style should be an added benefit the way this one plays out.

I looked at it for a while. Came away with the understanding that I couldn't back Loyola MD after how much they put into trying to beat Iona. They wanted that one pretty bad. Then again, Siena's got Iona on deck. Ugly game. Probably point Loyola, but not sure you're going to get their best effort.

Young for IUPUI has 18 with 11 minutes to go, but Westbrook is getting layup after layup after layup.  Nice call on Greensboro. Right on with "They will get tons of open looks" as they made 14 threes.

5* Illinois -3
3* Southern Utah +3
2* Cal Poly +3
2* UNC Greensboro PK
1* Arizona -14
1* South Dakota +2

3-3 but Down 6 units. Illinois didn't play with any passion. Penn State did. Last place Big 10 beats First place Big 10 SU.

Lean: Arizona/Utah Over 117
Lean: Elon/Samford Over 128.5
Lean: San Fran/Gonzaga Over 147
Lean: UCLA +2
Lean: Davidson -8.5

3-2 on Leans.

I got lucky and went one unit on Illinois and two on Arizona and Virginia and only played Greensboro of the others.

Get 'em back today and Saturday.
