Very true, just like Manny and Mayweather as long as people continue to pay to watch them fight chumps, they'll never fight each other. As long as We continue watching NFL, they won't budge, and sad to say the refs will eventually have to cave in, because just like anything in life, the more you do something the better you get, meaning these replacement refs will get better before they get worse.

Fellas, I personally know 2 NFL officials, both referees,....One is retired and the other has 6 years experience....Needless to say, but you can tell the difference "big time" between the caliber that's out there now and the regular NFL officials....In short, these NFL officials put in tons of time that most fans don't know about, plus, for most, they have other jobs....The training and learning new things goes on year around and never stops....They have salary scales dependent upon years experience etc. and you must have so many years to do the Super Bowl....Are they worth what they want now??....Of course....The NFL is a multi-billion dollar a year business....However, the owners are blood sucking "pit vipers" who love to show their power....They have Godell by the nuts....A settlement should be reached soon from what I hear....Some of the guys out there now are no better than high school officials....What a sad state!!....But the owners????....They could care less!

but this is not the issue. the owners are trying to kick the refs off their defined benefits pension plan, which many companies have done to their workers. except in the case of the nfl there appears to be no financial hardship which is causing it. the owners see it happening to other unions and decided they should be able to keep a few extra thousands for themselves.
1) I've seen reports that they are essentially dealing with 100K per team per year. Think about that. A multi-billion dollar is trying to squeeze the refs for 100K a team.
2) Refs have other jobs which likely provides a 401K retirement plan. A person can only put away 15K or so in a 401K plan regardless of how many plans a person is in. Thus, if a person maxes out their 401K in their regular job - the NFL is essentially offering them nothing, and, reality taking away the DB plan.
