I keep hearing Brent Venables name come up for the job. As a OU fan I hope y'all get Kliff and before the Cotton Bowl.

Your right I probably will be betting the same day the hire is announced I mean what would I do for march madness lol. I am sold on kliff because as a young guy with a heisman trophy winner under his wing he should be able to recruit the hell out of texas... Second he will bring our fan base back together that was splintered by the leach debacle... Third if we don't get him now, he will be somewhere else by the time we need another head coach (chad Morris) jumps ship to find another job. Morris is an aggie and has had his name in the hat for every hc opening since he left the high school ranks, he was on that swindler Todd Graham's staff at Tulsa... We need a coach who bleeds scarlet and black and won't give us 3 good years and jump ship and like mike gundy and pat Fitzgerald kliff would be a guy who would coach in Lubbock until he retires. Have to have this guy, no other options! Wreck em tech!

You're dreaming there TTP.....if you think Kingsbury or damn near any DIV.1 coach won't leave their alma mater for money, you need to think again. Especially when you consider that Tech can't compete money wise with the deep pocketed alumni that would attract him if he wins on a consistent basis. Tech doesn't have the football budget. Tech has done well in the last 10 years  recruiting overlooked talent , but it's getting harder and harder to land the real good one, especially defensive recruits, that are considering the big boys.
I don't know who the best candidate is and obviously neither do the employers at Tech. This will be the new AD's big test.

I think Texas A & M is winning the state of Texas....and will be in the future for recruiting.

errr....
POINT ......was I wouldn't get too excited about a guy UNPROVEN as a HC......seems like he knows what he's doing and is a pretty aggressive play-caller...
He MIGHT be great as a HC.....he might be clueless

Tech doesn't need a 'learning on the job' HC....but I would think they could do worse then Kingsbury

If Briles took the job?....OK piss your pants then....

We (alumni) will give Kliff 5 years to figure it out on the job.  Tubs put is in a downward spiral and it's foolish to believe that any coach could bring us back to 9 or 10 wins in one season.  We have a great offensive coordinator named Lincoln Riley who will hopefully stay on staff as well as Kingsbury's backup Sonny Cumbie who will call the offensive plays in our bowl game.  I'd rather Kliff learn on the job for us than be unavailable 3 years from now when Chad Morris or Venables is either fired or jumps ship.  I share the feelings of numerous alumni and boosters and have heard from sources that Kliff will accept the job if offered.  Gotta offer it to him.  I promise I know more about Texas Tech football than anyone on this board and I can assure you that Kliff is the must hire candidate.  Even if he gets 5 years and fails, at least we tried, we can no longer make the safe hire a la Tubs.

College football is about developing players. Tech is basically the same team year in and year out because they are at such a disadvantage when it comes to recruiting and now that A&M is where it is at it will only get twice as hard because A&M is bringing in the best class they have had in 20 years. The Big XII should be down next year from this year. So he has a big chance in his first year

ok Pika you got your guy, now we'll see over the next 3 years or so what he can do, they might give him 5 years, but there is enough of a talent base in the program and within a few hundreds mile of the school to at least make some headway.

your team was certainly much, much better than a 7-5 team this year

Kliff will keep the offense clicking but the problem with Tech has always been the defense. They haven't been able to consistently stop a good offense in over a decade. Recruiting offense and filling the defense with walk-on's hasn't worked in the past and never will. Not if you have championship aspirations.

Will it keep them winning more than they lose? yes, due to their ultra soft non-conference schedule season after season. Out score the sisters of the poor and then hope to split out on conference schedule. Go to a who's who bowl game with the stands half empty.

That is a tough sell when recruiting blue chippers.

Cliff Kingsbury is the man.  Look what he did with the A&M offense.  Good hire.
