#26 Posted: 2/3/2012 2:30:58 PM its a good thing the Giants have better defense and offense.
only thing that bothers me is that Vegas knows Gmen is the better team.. and that Brady & Belichick hasn't blown out teams in SBs (3 point win margin)..
yet, the line is Gmen +3.

good point but those team live and die bu their qb play. That is the new key |

the lions do look good on paper. i wonder if they will put it together. i doubt it. i really like houston. i think they have one of, if not the, most complete teams in the league. but shaub is unreliable in terms of health.

The Patriots scored more than 100 points more than the Giants this season. How do you figure the Giants have a better offense? |

Now Good Goaltending can win you a championship in the NHL.... But Not in the NFL
Pats 27 Giants 17

Not true.
Da 85 Bears actually had a fairly good offense, gaining more yards then Dallas SB teams, Walter Payton ave more per carry then Smith, they ave more per pass than Dallas and more per pass then some of Montana's SB winning teams, surprise, surprise but yep all true. |

LSU beat Bama....and Bama was a fav again in the NC game. It's too illogical to be logical. Pick who you think is the better team and forget the # on this game cause the more you read it, the more it doesn't make any sense.

i said better offense cause i'd rather have the balanced attack of the Giants. Current Giants receivers and RBs have more talent than Pat's.. especially with Gronk being less than 100 %.
but like i said before, something is askew with the line -3.

Saints finished no. 3 in Defensive QB passer rating, and it was that same DQBPR that sealed the SB with a pick-6, something the Siants defense did all year long, create TO and score defensive TD's.
Yea Saints had a strong defense.
Colts were one of the worst regular season defenses to win the SB, however, just like the Giants, the Colts defense played strong in the playoffs, bailing out Mannings string of int's and winning games.
The Steelers were one of the stronger defensive teams in the league when they won SB'S in 2005-06 and 2008-09.
Pats clearly were defensive oriented winning their 1st SB, the offense managed just 13 pts while the defense shut-down the greatest show on turf Rams to just 17 pts and the D turned in a pick-6 .
And you think they won with offense, that's interesting..........................................
The Pats had very strong regular season defenses with their 3 SB winning teams. |

#38 Posted: 2/4/2012 3:29:10 PM If ur going to run a solid long term organization in the NFL you can't put a perfect team on the field any one year. your gonna handicap yourself for future years. So b weak in the smartest areas to b weak. If you look at the nfl rush yards pass yards and the same aloud ul find that pass yards aloud have the lowest correlation to winning a chapionship. If you look at the pats defense they allow about 17-28 points a game. If you look at patriots games their loses comes wen the offense struggles. The patriots defense is built to hold teams down, not stop them, and they do ok considering they face more plays than the average defense and r usually in some sort of a conservative shell playing w a lead. they let up between 17-28 points almost every game. So the question is.. as always wen betting the patriots.. do u think they r going to drop 30.. Im betting they will. they almost always do... Over and Pats for me 42-24 |

#39 Posted: 2/4/2012 3:54:41 PM while I agree that the phrase "defense wins championships" is tossed out there by a lot by the so called experts etc. What I think wins championships is balance, offense, defense, and special teams. If you have all 3 playing against a team that only has 2 or less, you have the better team. It is the turnovers that can kill you.

#44 Posted: 2/4/2012 5:58:02 PM Its funny to listen to u guys.... "defense doesn't win championships.. balance does... get ur offense inline and defense an afterthought...ect....ect..." No one takes any of that crap to heart..
U want to kno wat has the highest correlation to winning championships in NCAAF and the NFL
Scoring an above league average amount of points per game Stoping the run a + turnover margin
Those 3 are the stats that have a significant correlation to winning championships. Out of the top 15 statistical categories or so none other have a relatively high correlation to winning championships.
Man, u guys r lazy
Thats is why the patriots r consistently so good... because they are the smartest... Like the above poster said, no NFL can b perfect under the present league rules. So b weak in the smartest areas to b weak and be strong in the areas that have the highest correlation to winning championships. The patriots have a guy named Ernie Adams who keeps them ahead of the curve in this aspect of the game. There game management theory is also the best in the league |

I have seen that phrase typed at covers the past 2 weeks a million times.
There are numerous great articles out there on the subject, but this one sums it up pretty nicely.

Forget about all SB can we assume 4 years ago d won it and can consider this year possibly the same???????? |

Well, it was the team who turn-up their defense with 2 games left in the regular season and needed both wins just to make the playoff, the team who's defense controled 2 of the greatest offenses in Packers and Pats that won the SB.
The Giants defense proved again, defense does win championships...............................................................
If the Giants win this game and do it with defense, well................................................................... |
