#1 Posted: 10/30/2010 6:34:02 PM I tried to take Air Force tonight + 6.5 and it told me due to the consensus on this game, we cannot allow your pick????????? I don't get that? that should never be an option for a football game? this has never happened to me before. Can anyone explain please? |

#3 Posted: 11/4/2010 9:24:04 AM if you look at the contest home page on right hand side.... there is a consensus for all of the games. usually the top ten games on there will display that message when you try picking them in the streak survivor.
the reason you cant pick the game is because it is a heavy favorite (in term of people on covers picking it)

#4 Posted: 11/14/2010 9:45:01 AM I think that is lame bull s%@t. You should be able to pick any game anytime on the board. End of story. |

#5 Posted: 11/14/2010 10:48:30 AM Agree with you sizzler. That is just lame. Move the line, to even betting or if they don't want to do that, they should take their lumps if they lose. Any football, or basketball game with an established line should be fair game for the player. |

#6 Posted: 11/15/2010 10:11:03 PM Most of the time I've had this happen to me it was because the number was being changed. Wait a couple minutes and try again, the spread or total will probably me changed by half a point or so but you should be able to pick it if you'd like.

not true
I tried to pick Minnesota NHL and got rejected.
I went to check consensus and:
53.99% were on Minnesota 46.01% on Rangers

http://contests.covers.com/Handicapping/ConsensusPick/consensus-pick.aspx?sport=NHL&sportId=6&eventId=38654 I think they have someone watching the games and it has nothing to do with consensus. If that person thinks its to easy of a win, in their opinion, than its taken off or you just cant pick it. Making it as hard as possible, you think their just gonna give money away. NOT |

#9 Posted: 11/27/2010 6:27:33 PM Lord folks,"mikezadwarny" answer seems to make the most sense. It is a contest after all and all contests have their own rules. |

#11 Posted: 12/4/2010 2:41:15 AM I wish somebody running the contest would come on here and tell us what the deal is. This has been happening a lot the last week. I remember it wouldn't let me pick the side or total of the Colts/Chargers game. Now I just trired Boise St Under 61.5 and it rejected that but it did let me take Utah St +37.5. I figure Boise has thrown in the towel on their season since they are going to a crap bowl.

#12 Posted: 12/4/2010 4:18:07 AM to clarify my consensus post ... games are only shown in the survivor contest that have a line of -130 or less
most of the time these games that seem like heavy favorites usually are, but still have a small line. example lakers being a huge favorite over Sacramento yet the line is still -110. you will see the lakers in the top section of the consensus and majority of covers users/experts will have them picked and show a high % on the consensus.

#14 Posted: 12/5/2010 10:26:26 PM I just tried to get the Miami Heat -4 over the Bucks and got that consensus no pick BS. I agree with sizzler if it's available on the board it should be able to be picked. I'm at 0 so what's the harm if I get to 1.

#16 Posted: 12/6/2010 8:02:43 PM I have had this happen about 3 times. Twice, I just waited about 30 mins to an hour and came back and made the pick. One other time, the line moved a point (Bball game went from -1 to -2) and it let me make the pick.
But even if it is bullshit, the ones who make the game and put up the $$$ are the ones who make the rules.
If they really wanted to make it difficult they would only post 5-10 games a night and make us pick from them.
If you don't like the FREE game, then don't play it!

#17 Posted: 12/9/2010 10:38:10 AM If the game is unavailable due to concensus then why even list it? Today I see the games available to me, do a little research, then go back to pick. And now that tonight's football game is no longer an option I have to research another option. No big deal since it's a FREE and FUN contest. Just wondering why it was still being listed? |

You might have caught it an in-between stage where the consensus moved just enough to make it unavailable. Usually if you check back 3-10 min later it will be back up but I can't guarantee it.

#19 Posted: 12/9/2010 5:04:52 PM You're exactly right Rizz, I did get my selection in. This particular game was off the selection list for the most part the last couple of days. The few times it did appear I tried to get it but was denied. I was starting to wonder why it was even reappearing. I guess my timing was just off. All I can say to all the above posters is that you gotta be persistant as lines do change.
Rizz.

Just happened to me when I tried to take Houston Texans+3 at home vs Ravens tonight on MNF. "Due to consensus...blah, blah, blah..." And now it's not offered with consensus showing 76% on Ravens-3 pts.
I'll check back but it still sucks cause I was taking a live dog IMO. |

#21 Posted: 12/16/2010 12:27:18 PM When you get the message about the "consensus and you can not play the play", you might want to bet the play. I checked all the complaints and each game where the play was rejected, the play that was rejected won, except the Houston +3 game.
This could be profitable as a system at a sportsbook |
