some truth in all that for sure...lets see if youk doesnt have a good day today and beckett gives up a couple of homers and price shuts down this lineup top to bottom in fenway opener...this garbage changes from day to day week to week...when carl crawford gets healthy and the pitching re-inforcements (aaron hill) kick in this team will be there come September...sure wish i had ridden the d-backs but hey i am a sox fan... ain't worried |

#52 Posted: 4/13/2012 12:30:39 PM Pena hitting second and Joyce cleanup? Lolz. And everyone keeps talking about the bottom of the Sox lineup but you might want to check out how bad the Rays are 6-9.

#54 Posted: 4/13/2012 12:35:56 PM Beckett pitched Sunday night of that series in 2011 against CC and was +110. The Sox were 1-7 and the Yanks were 5-3. so somewhat sets up to how things look today. He was -137 against Shields in Sept 2011 in his only home start against the Rays.

#56 Posted: 4/13/2012 12:54:11 PM Beckett didnt look very strong against the tigers and price has had a history of doing well at fenway. The line is where vegas put it because of these factors. I have no doubt there are squares on each side going ohh man price in boston a lock - or beckeet on opening day lock! There are wayyyy more things to consider in this than just starting pitching. In the end i chose the rays and I listed the same BS reasons everyone else did, but the main reason I chose the Rays is because they are winners flat out - they know how to win, they're feeling good after stealing one from verlander. meanwhile you have the sox who have only won 1 game and they have lost in some bad fashion. never bet on a club when its down. The people betting on boston today are the people betting on Charlotte, or who bet on the Mariners last year when they lost 10+ in a row.
The atmosphere in boston right now is not good and its shades of last year early all over again. if boston started a bit hotter I would totally agree that a line of -130 is justifiable, but not right now - vegas did this one right. Minimal risk and got action on both sides.

Everybody keeps talking about Prices's numbers vs the Red Sox. Check out Becketts numbers vs the Rays..
If u go by that starting pitching is a wash. Now compare the lineups.. Boston huge edge Then throw in fenway where the redsox are really good and it provides homefield advantage.
Rays lineup doesnt scare me at all... Beckett does and the bullpen.
Linesmakers could get the same play for both sides if they had made the line -130+ |

Yea it opened at -125 for me and pretty even for the rays. hell i got the rays on the overnight line with my local and ended up paying for it.
I agree starting pitching is basically even, but from what i've seen from Beckett he is on the decline so I can't take put too much stock in his career numbers vs the rays. I'd say the boston lineup is better but they are not hitting like it, they'll need the long ball to survive today because they can not manufacture runs. Should be an interesting game, by no means is it an easy play on either side.

#59 Posted: 4/13/2012 1:34:45 PM I have the Red Sox averaging 3.33 rpg and the Rays at 4.34. Something about an opening day that pulls a team together - not tear it apart - which is why I took Boston for a pair (two units). |
