the series will come down to how well the canucks can handle the early adversity and pressure behind their home crowd..but to say that the canucks have this goaltending edge..not until Luongo proves the hype..thats the point Luongo hasnt proven anything..Crawford will be given the chance..
thats the difference between unproven and untested
Can't believe I'm gonna say this but Flutie is right on point. Whereas, our homer Canucks fans think this is gonna be an easy series .
I think the Canucks did enough on the back end to not have so many defensive meltdowns, but how will they face the pressure? They have shat down their legs the last two years, Chicago has no pressure whatsoever, they got handed a playoff spot. The hawks are not as talented, but if we see last yeas Luongo, this series could easily go to chitown.
Not thrilled at all with this matchup as I have the Canucks @ 8-1 to win the cup. Still think Canucks squeak it out in 6 games, but one bad night from the boys and the series can flip in a second. Add in the Bettman and goal review factor, and the front office gives the edge to Chicago with any questionable calls .
darn can we just beat the hawks for once.

#54 Posted: 4/11/2011 12:46:27 AM No Byfuglien for the Hawks. No Eager, No Ladd, No Madden, No Sopel, No Versteeg. Enter in Ballard, Torres, Hamhuis for the Canucks.
The blackhawks won the title last year because they had amazing depth and a whole mess of talent up front and on the blue line. They beat the canucks because Dustin Byfuglien was the best player on the ice. This year the canucks have the deeper team, forwards and defensemen. I don't think its even debatable. The canucks also lost last year because they couldnt kill penalties or stop momentum with blue line play. Luongo might have crumbled under pressure, but its real easy to do that when nobody is on top of their man.
Surely, Dallas would have been a much easier opponent, because as we saw today, and as we've seen in the past few weeks (ask san jose) they crumble when shown quality in a pressure spot.
That being said...
DONT GET IT TWISTED. 1st in Goals. 1st in Goals Allowed. 1st in Powerplay. 2nd in Penalty Kill. Best Home Record, Best Road Record. This is NOT last year's Canucks. That team didn't have the defensive cohesion as this one does. Luongo can be the best goalie in the world, Kesler was MVP for two months, Henrik and Daniel aren't gonna be shut down by anyone wearing red this week.
If you think that the blackhawks are going to make a deep run in the playoffs, and they're going to start in by beating the best team in the nhl since january, you haven't been watching.
Canucks in 6.... and the city will become a bulls town for a month.

Flutie is right. Arguably the biggest canuck hater on this forum but at least he is capable of seeing how it really is. I hate how he generalizes a few homer fans to the whole fan base but from reading his posts I know he knows the game quite well.
Look, the Canucks have all this pressure because this year they ARE the better team. to say they've shat down their legs the last 2 years would not be giving chicago respect. Yes, The last 2 years were very disappointing for the canucks but Chicago was the superior team... The fans just didn't want to give them that.
This year SHOULD be a different story with a different outcome. No Bufylegen to get in Luongo's head, No Ladd to get in Keslers face, No Versteeg/Burrish to piss of Burrows, No Eager to run over whoever. yea, bolland's still around but if the Sedin's can't get over him well that's a different story...The Canucks now only need to focus on shutting down toews/kane/sharp. If hamhuis/bieksa can limit their opportunites, luongo actually make big saves, then i like their chances. This IS going to be a close series but I give the edge objectively to the Canucks because of their depth.
Nonetheless, it's cup or bust for this team this year. I would almost rather have the hawks beat the nucks than have the nucks lose in the 2nd round again. I'm more afraid of a huge emotional letdown if the canucks get past the hawks...especially if it goes 6/7 games. The west goes to SJ or Vancouver this year... |

#61 Posted: 4/11/2011 6:16:12 AM Vancouver probably wanted to play Chicago! Beating the blackhawks will do wonders for their confidence as they will finally get over the proverbial "hump", setting the tone for a long playoff run. After Toews, Dustin Byfuglien was Chicago's most important player in their cup run last year. He isn't there anymore. Vancouver in six! |

Theoretically this makes sense. Defending Cup champ, plenty of talent, good coach, etc.
However, at what point does their performance this season start to overshadow these things? They've been "desperate" for weeks now and have still played lousy. They had a home game to get into the playoffs and lost to a team with nothing to play for yesterday.
I find it hard to back them when they haven't mustered the effort to even secure a playoff spot on their own merit. |

Not!!One game losing against the 3rd seed Redwings AFTER BEATING THEM THE NIGHT B4 ON THE ROAD is hardly failing its very hard to beat quality teams 2 games in a row nd believe me the Redwings played hard they wanted to knock thhe Hwks out.Now Dallas on the other hand lost to the Wild.So thats bs

#65 Posted: 4/11/2011 10:55:47 AM Blah Blah Blah! All these posts from 'homers' acting as if they are psychic by saying how VanCity will win, and then post by haters saying how Chicago will send Van packing.
Make no mistake, this is the match-up Van wanted. It's going to be a great, hard fought series, probably go down to game 7. I have been a Canucks fan for the last 30 years, and have never had a team this good. If they do win then "Stanley Parks in Vancouver", and if not, well, hey, we're used to saying "Wait till next year!" |

#68 Posted: 4/13/2011 1:18:58 AM damn chicago whipped the canucks 7-1 all the way back in nov. , i bet the fact we had peter schafer, joel perrault, aaron rome, and andrew alberts had nothing to do with that at all either , not like our defense was still getting use to each other er nuttin. You know when you use players like big buff, ladd and versteeg, it takes alot less pressure of the opposing teams, now they can focus in on your best players more like toews sharp an kanee , should worry about the bum hossa to much hes inconsistent as it is lol .. and kane is such a liability on defense when hes on the ice.. hawks were ranked 4th in pk last year this year... 25th.. better make sure you dont take no penalties lol.. they are clearly way worse than they were last year in every aspect of the game and hawks fans are just scared to admit it, anyways, keep talking , im sure one of us will regret talking at the end of the series lol |
