IMO this is a terrible signing...
last year: burned on tomas kaberle..this year: bite on an iffy character guy...with attitude issues.. who disappears in the trenches...
will he or won't he show up on a given night? your guess is as good as mine...
rutherford obviously hoping they have the character guys who can help keep his mind from wandering...
but $7-mil a year for a guy whose heart isn't always in it?...sweet hayzoos was it that long ago that coloardo gave teemu selanne $5-mil+, and at least they paid a HOFer...sorry but im holding my nose

#4 Posted: 7/26/2012 5:59:43 PM It's only a year and if they were are pretty solidly under the cap, I'd have to appreciate them spending the money. Optimal? Probably not. But he's off the books next year so he doesn't hurt their flexibility long term. Did they really have many better options? |

Might want to at least wait and see what happens in camp and pre-season and what the betting lines look like before making a blanket statement like that.

#6 Posted: 7/26/2012 6:21:17 PM i think the money's too much for his likely impact, and yet ... with a one-year deal, they'll probably have his full attention, b/c he'll be motivated to get one last multi-year deal to end his career ... and they really need to make the playoffs this year, for revenue reasons ... and almost as importantly, it's important that they not be perceived as not making it because they're too stingy ... and even if he's a bust in carolina, at least he won't be wearing the 'canes out in a caps uni, because he sure has for the last several years. |

#7 Posted: 7/26/2012 7:36:37 PM $7 million for THAT mutt? the guy is a complete "no load" screwoff. IF "Seaman" Semin can't perform playing with Ovechkin and Backstrom, what makes anyone think a lower level of talent @ Carolina is going to "wake him up"? |

Good point.
Even though he doesn't deserve NEAR 7m I can see why they would throw it at him for only a 1 year.. |
