This is one of the tougher games for me to handicap.  VT will need to rely heavily on their front 7 to make some plays because their offense sure won't.  Coaching edge to VT, in my opinion.  Toss up for me at the moment, but would love to hear some feedback on this one...

UCLA  coaching, talent, VT O weaknesse play prefectly to UCLA def weakness which is the pass medium to deep.  UCLA Off weapons is daunting to any defense. Watched alot fo UCLA 2nd half of the season and the only game they didnt play well was against Col blowing a big lead but won the game. However Mora was substituting on def in the second half. IMO UCLA is an young upper tier Pac-12 team that si highly motivted. LARGE

how will this impact a UCLA cover...they will be without their leading tackler on D...

UCLA linebacker Eric Kendricks will have ankle surgery Friday, leaving the Bruins without their leading tackler against Virginia Tech in the Hyundai Sun Bowl.

Kendricks had ankle surgery last summer, which slowed him during training camp. During the season, he battled through back and shoulder injuries. He led the team with 106 tackles, which was the third-most in the Pac-12.

BOWL TIMELINE: Matchups, schedule and picks

He has not been able to practice since the USC game on Nov. 30. Freshman Isaako Savaiinaea has been practicing in his place.

UCLA still rolls.  VT offense is beyond terrible.  Excellent defense but think they will be worn down in the second half.  Fuller and Exum might play but still coming back from injuries.  Logan Thomas has no offensive line and no RB.

I am with the majority here, UCLA should roll over the Hokies.  With Mora returning, the team should want to get the next year jumpstarted and continue the momentum from trouncing their rival, USC.  Va Tech has a good defense against traditional offenses but UCLA and the PAC12 are more wide open than what VT usually faces.  The VT offense is predictable, and boring (will Logan Thomas ever graduate, or is this his son?)  You cannot read too much specific games but VT lost to Maryland...at home.  And they only scored 10 points on Duke's defense....at home.  Bowls always make me nervous but I am pretty confident that a motivated UCLA team wins this one easily.

Motivation is with UCLA ?

Last year with Mora and a formidable opponent Baylor

The Bruins were jumping over the fences to quit practice early

What's changed ?

VT +7.5

VT defense keeps it close enough

Too bad that QB Logan Thomas could not return to his 2011 form, if he had that type of season VT could have had shot at dethroning ACC power Florida State. Not sure that Thomas will be much better in Sun Bowl but getting Touchdown in a defensively dominated games sounds too good to pass up. Bruins might win but just can't see Hundley and the UCLA offense scoring more than 20 points ..Score Prediction, UCLA wins but can't cover 17-13.
