Working their way out, they still traded punts for even worse field position and lost 90 seconds.

but the fact is that you have the ball now...
why would anyone want to give the ball up with 4 minutes left?

as for onside, you can try, but since its not a kickoff, and its a punt, you cant interfere with the returner, thats a flag.
and youre punting from the 20 yardline.
considering most punters net about 40.
that means bills will most likely take over at their own 40. even if the dont get any yardage, they'll just punt it right back.

if youre down 1, and the other team as the ball, sure let them score to be down 8 to save time. i understand that.
but giving up the ball just to get better field position, is, imo, absurd.

Deegen, after the safety, it's a free kick. You can do a kickoff without a tee and yes you can onside that. It doesn't have to be a punt. It's not just field position you are gaining. You are also gaining 90-120 seconds. What is the point in getting the ball back with less than 1 minute left and no timeouts, which is exactly what happened to Miami?

Also, of course you can interfere with the returner because it's a FREE KICK. Only if he calls fair catch can they not interfere.

Gotta love how that flag came in five seconds AFTeR the play and was clearly dictated by the bills coaches on the sidelines.

Esp when the replay shows the bills coaching yelling then all of a sudden all happy that he got his flag. Bullshit call never fails
