#203 Posted: 1/2/2011 8:10:26 AM i forgot about this thread......
i came back to the MLB forum for the first time since the WS , and remember how much of a laugh i got at Marnypoly's expense....
after game 1 ,....the water was at Marnypoly's knees , when the Rangers ace Lee got smoked...
after game 2,...the water was up at hip level.....but he still kept the faith
after game 3 the water subsided a little...and there was a faint glimmer..
after game 4.....the water rose to neck height.... then game 5.........Marnypoly drowns .......and it wasn't even close...... Lee got smoked a 2nd time.........
i always got a kick out of his avatar,...clearly he has a good sense of humour to stick with the avatar through thick and thin ( i've never seen someone's avatar cop so many comments)
but as a baseball analyst and bettor.....your judgement was in your sigmoid colon ,.....just a little past your internal sphincter.....
your comments pre WS were a little cocky and brazen... i personally thought it was a toss up ( great pitching SF vs great offense TEX)......... but once the word LOCK got mentioned...i shoulda known that was the kiss of death.....and ALL IN was the cherry on top. .
maybe a few months of chilling will make you realise the error of your ways , and how poorly you came across in this entire thread....
even presidential candidates getting their behind handed to them have the cojones to stand up and offer a concession speech......
Marnypoly....if there were such a thing as an "MLB thread Hall of Shame"...this one gets in the first year of nomination
that's a lock !

#205 Posted: 1/3/2011 6:10:43 AM when your ace pitcher goes 0-2 in the WS , as a -123 road fav , and as a -172 home fav, giving up go ahead HR's in both games, what would you call that ?
don't get me wrong,....i love Cliff Lee ....even though i don't really like PHI or TEX ,...i think Cliff is a classy guy , and i love his composure... he's the first pitcher i started following blindly in his killer year in CLE when he was like 22-3 or something sick like that , in the 2008 season,
but he clearly wasn't able to shut down SF..
i would say he got smoked. if SF just played small ball , and got singles and doubles,..i wouldn't have used the word "smoked".....but giving up HR's is a crushing blow to a team barely hanging by a thread.
the onus is always on the pitcher to keep his team in the game.....
he didn't do it .............TWICE !

he didn't do it .............TWICE ! He made 1 bad pitch the second game and the ageless wonder made him pay. I agree that was terrible and made a bad decision. But other than that 1 at bat he pitched very solid. If the Rangers win that game 4-3. Did he still get smoked, NO. The Rangers bats were terrible and that was the difference, not Lee getting smoked the 2nd time around. |

#213 Posted: 1/5/2011 1:43:51 AM you're splitting hairs
1 bad pitch should cost you 1 run, right ?
how did the other baserunners get OB ?
sounds like 1 bad pitch and quite a few so-so ones.
| Cliff Lee pitching for Texas | SF | TEX |
|---|
C Ross singled to center.| J Uribe singled to center, C Ross to second. | A Huff sacrificed to pitcher, C Ross to third, J Uribe to second. | P Burrell struck out swinging. | E Renteria homered to left center (404 feet), C Ross and J Uribe scored. | 0 |

#214 Posted: 1/5/2011 1:57:27 AM garbage ,..that cut & paste job from the ESPN play by play didn't quite work the way i thought it would
i guess the covers forum doesn't like ESPN data !
when you get smoked in MLB ,...it doesn't mean you pitched garbage from start to finish...
smoked can refer to just 1 pitch ...
a 404 ft HR doesn't sound like a mistimed hit,...sounds like Renteria smoked that pitch.
yes, The TEX bats were in a coma,...
in game 5 , Lee did give up 6 hits for 3 runs ...... in game 1 , Lee gave up 8 hits for 7 runs
it's admirable that you want to stick up for Cliff,..but he didn't exactly pitch his 2 best games , did he ?
fair to say he pitched a shitload better vs NYY and TB , than he did against SF

i never thought i would ever see someone giving praise to a sixty-year-old cocaine addict but low and behold here it is.
washington is horrible and even worse with his break-dancing, ghetto moon-walking twitches in the dugout.
good grief. |
