Yeah, but they really dont even need to "fix" or "stage" anything.
If you actually figure out how much money the site is making on these individual items it is staggering. A computer that sells for $38 makes the company like $3,800. |

Basically, it was a blind auction and you could pick any price you wanted going up/down by 1 cent increments. Whoever gets the lowest UNIQUE bid, wins it for that price.
So if you bid a penny and you're the only person to bid 1 cent, then you get the product for a penny. Of course, the company makes money off of all the other bids placed... and what's even worst is that hundreds of people could big on the same price and not even know it.
For example, there could be hundreds of bids on all the price points from 1 cent up to 100 dollars but people will keep bidding low in hopes that they were the only one to do so, because remember, you need to be the lowest UNIQUE bidder.
I forget what it's called but the whole 'lowest unique bidder' thing adds a twist.

#133 Posted: 4/5/2010 1:49:47 PM this is an intriguing business... I can't blame anyone for trying to make money. Greed is a natural human characteristic.

#135 Posted: 4/5/2010 2:31:09 PM ok this guy won with 400 bids.... Considering the cost of a MacBook, this guy got a pretty good deal... in this case the math works out to the favor of the consumer....in terms of price that is, but the profit always favor the site.... GENIUSSSSSS!!

Its 50 useless bids. Anytime you bid for something someone outbids you.
I would like to meet an actual person that won a bid. |

Even with these 'free bids' they are just free bids to pay the current price, which you won't win anyway. The bids are where the $'s at - I am going to get those 50 free bids and sell them on ebay!!
