#1 Posted: 11/22/2011 6:37:51 PM We've been receiving reports from people complaining that their version of AV Protection 2011 is detecting malware on our site.
We are investigating all reports, but we can also say without hesitation that AV Protection 2011 is a piece of malware in itself,
It appears to be security software, but it's the opposite. It tricks users into thinking they have malware, so that they update it and purchase the "full" version, even while it is disabling your other security products on your PC.
Once again, AV Protection 2011 needs to be downloaded and installed manually, so you didn't get this from Covers.
If you have been counting on AV Protection 2011 for protecting your computer, you need to get rid of it now!

#2 Posted: 11/22/2011 6:56:57 PM with everybody passing LINKS TO WATCH GAMES - one of those sites would be popular to get hit with the AV Protection 2011 crap.
I fell victim to this... and then blasted the Help Forum about it.
I'm all good over here now.

#3 Posted: 11/23/2011 5:15:23 AM Last night I went and purchased Malwarebytes and ran a full test it came back clean no infections or nothing a clean bill of health So your security team is playing games or they have no clue on what their doing . Their telling you its this and that which in my case its neither no AV Protection or any other malware |

#5 Posted: 11/23/2011 11:15:09 AM AV Protection is malware that you have to install yourself.
You don't pick it up by visiting a site.
How it works is you (or maybe your wife or kids) visit a site and a banner pops up saying "You have a virus! Click here to delete it."
So you, or your wife, or your kids, says. "garbage! I've got a virus! I'd better click on this."
So you go to the site and it says, "Download our free AV Protection 2011 security software, and we'll clean up your PC."
So you do. Congratulations. Now you have AV Protection 2011 on your system. And since you installed it yourself, you bypassed all of your security measures.
Now you start getting all kinds of virus warnings. And AV Protection tells you to update and upgrade to their full, paid version.
Now you have malware, and you just paid for it.
And you didn't get it from Covers. |

#7 Posted: 11/23/2011 12:43:53 PM Dude, thanks for the input, but this is not all about you.
We are getting dozens of emails from people saying that they got this AV Protection 2011 virus from Covers.
I am trying to point out that it is not possible that this particular virus came from Covers and am giving them ways to clean their system. |

#8 Posted: 11/23/2011 12:50:44 PM As for your particular story, can you please tell us exactly which virus you say you are getting from Covers?
You are telling us that your computer is getting requests from other servers but so far you have not given us a specific virus or malware.
You also have not told us which ads were showing when you got these requests.
Without that information, we can't investigate fully.
All we can do is say, "Yup, those addresses seem to be bad."
But if we don't know what specific malware program is contacting those addresses, or what ads are showing at that time, we don't even know what to look for. |

I couldn't even get rid of it - and I've been around PC's for years & years.
My buddy wiped my PC clean of it a couple days ago and I've been rockin' Google Chrome since and I've had no issues.

#17 Posted: 12/26/2011 2:14:55 PM I get a pop up from Norton when I move around on Covers from one forum to another saying something about a "malicious toolkit" that was blocked. That's all I have ever gotten. Norton blocks it, so maybe people that have it aren't protected.

I have gotten this too. Maybe it's a Norton thing.

#19 Posted: 12/29/2011 12:50:13 AM That's great but this thing is trashing my computer at will without any acceptance. What do we do to keep it from hammering this website?
That's what's happening here gentlemen. |

#21 Posted: 1/15/2012 10:38:37 PM I actually got this virus. It installs itself on your laptop. The way I got rid of it was entering "safe mode while networking"...then I downloaded MALWARE ANIT-BYTES malware....i then ran a full scan while still in safe-mode while networking...and it got rid of it.
That AV PROTECTION virus is a girl.
