#2 Posted: 10/3/2011 12:57:45 AM Colonel? Danstyk? You guys still around here?
I haven't come on here for a long time, but thought I would share my opinion on this game...
I absolutely LOVE my Hawkeyes this week. Kirk Ferentz is finally given in and "scratchin what's itchin" and went to a no huddle offense. Ever since this, the Iowa offense has been on fire. We scored 4 straight TD's to end the Pitt game, all in no huddle, then opened up with another 2 quick ones in the beginning of the game vs ULM. I can honestly say I have never had so much optimism for a QB than I do with Vandenberg, he can make plays happen with his arm. If he is given the offense, he will make plays. On top of that, Iowa has the best recieving corp I've ever seen at Iowa. They have been catching anything and everything thorwn at them. I think Iowa will be able to score on Penn State this week.
Iowa's defense has been the question mark of the team, but I think we have finally figured some things out. Jordan Bernsteine has just been amazing this year. He has shown more effort by far than anyone else on the team. He was not available for the game against Iowa State and I think that played a huge role in the loss. I think that Iowa will be able to contain the Penn St offense and force a few turnovers against the shaky QB situation.
All in all, it should be a fun and entertaining game, they always are between these two teams.
I think that Iowa will take this one by 14+ this week, something along the lines of 27-13. |

#4 Posted: 10/3/2011 11:17:14 AM I got iowa +3. Penn St cant move the ball against temple or indiana! Iowa +3 I thought Vandenberg contracted Polio! No major injuries for Iowa but you could put Corky at QB and Iowa will win this game by 10 minimum. As bad as iowa def has looked, they are still better than temple and indiana. PSU will make mistakes and struggle to move the ball. They will kick fgs and iowa will score TDs. PSU may be 4 - 1 but they are terrible and could possibly get blanked in conference play. PSU is going to get destroyed their last 4 for sure, and it is quite possible they can lose the next seven. Purdue and Northwestern are the games PSU has to win to play in the toliet bowl! I believe PSU has thrown more INTs than TDs. I am going to DisneyLand! I cant believe I got Iowa +3. |

#6 Posted: 10/3/2011 5:49:30 PM Line is up to 4, and who has any idea why with Penn State's offense. Can they score more than 3? I'd have to take the points in this match up of under performers. |

#7 Posted: 10/3/2011 7:17:02 PM Hawkeye my friend great to see mi amigo back capping his Hawks. The Hawkeyes are playing well right now while my Lions are struggling in every phase of the game. Tough to go against those Hawkeyes, but everytime I thought the Lions had the better team the Hawkeyes would win. Maybe this time PSU turns the tables.
Penn St - 31 Iowa - 25
Nittany Lions -4
Just can't go against my Lions amigo

I'll never forget that 2004 game as long as I live. I had PSU and all they could get were 2 safeties. Their defense was unbelievably good and the offense unbelievably bad.

LOL How is Penn St gonna score 31! they couldnt get about half that against comparable defenses. ??? I am not understanding this line. PSU defense has inflated numbers because the teams they play cant execute plays on offense. For instance eastern michigan had three turnovers two from the qb fumbling on the exchange. I know PSU is in a down recruiting era but they are terrible. I expect this line 3years ago at home but with 2 TD passes in five games and no running game to speak off. ??? Bama is the best team PSU played and I know its BAMA but PSU looked like a div 2 program. I see this line moving up as well as people keep jumping on PSU. I feel I am missing something here. PSU may not win another game this season the way they are playing and the way the coaching staff makes huge gaffes. Out of principle I must go Iowa ml, but due to this errie line and people telling me PSU all the way double digit win I am taking iowa plus 4. I have watched all PSU games and they are terrible. ??? QBs have no idea how to lead receivers, telegraph throws, and obviously are not coached up. RBs are impatient and do not follow blocks. Play calling is ridiculus. Offensive Line is undisciplined and highly penalized. The defense is the teams strong point but against good offensive teams they are below average. Statistically they are ranked top 10. After conference play this defense will be somewhere between 75 and 100 in the nation. |

#11 Posted: 10/6/2011 9:18:20 AM as a die hard fan of penn state most of you are on the right track liking iowa.
but its not because penn state defense isnt stellar or their recruiting has been down.
surprisingly, outside of last year (and the players wouldnt be playing so early anyway in the class) psu has not been down in recruiting at all. in fact this year they currently sit around #10 with 17 recruits. it comes down to two things. 1. qb play, its that simple, they rotate them and bolden is awful, and mcgloin isnt much better (bolden was a huge recruit as was paul jones who cant get on the field to academic issues) 2. coaching this goes back to qb issues and overall playcalling, the coaches have fumbled this season away with the rotation, psu plays much smoother with mcgloin in but they are afraid bolden will transfer, let him!
psu defense is probably their top 4 defense dating back to 2000. They can get after it. Now they lost Mauti their stud at LB but they have so much depth there its sickening really. Should get top cb lynn back this week as well.
Blame the coaching, blame the qb, heck blame the whole offense (their wrs are fine), just dont blame the defense or recruiting for their pathetic performance this year.
IF they had decent qb play, this would be a top 15 team easily.

You are right on the money here my friend.
But what if the Lions get by the Hawks (which they probably won't.) Could they possibly run the table and go into that final game against the Badgers undefeated in the Big 10?
Just a thought. Crazy things happen.

#16 Posted: 10/8/2011 2:08:50 AM Let me start by saying that I am a HUGE Penn State fan. Ok now that I got that out if the way and as much as it pains me to do this, My is on Iowa here. If the Lions don't get away from this awful 2 QB system that they are in they stand no chance to develop as a team and compete in the Big 10. Just give Mcgloin the ball and give Bolden a bus ticket. As I said, I like Iowa SU here and will absolutely throw them on a teaser or two. Something like Iowa +11 and LSU-7 lookin real good right now. |

Really liking Iowa on the teaser as well...Really hard to see Iowa losing by more than a TD here, if at all, let alone 10 |
