i disagree with that statement. it's one thing to be a heterosexual person who doesn't have a big a stake in this who just dislikes bigots and hypocrites like this cathy guy. but if i was gay, it would be a whole different ball game. imagine if you really loved a chick and wanted to marry her but you couldn't because some hypocritical religious freak told you that you couldn't. don't you think you'd take that a little worse than just some person expressing an opinion? didn't black and white people take it appropriately as more serious than that not long ago when the religious nuts in the south forbid them from marrying?

you can disagree, that's the point. Neither the man who said the quote i posted or Mr Cathy's opinion matters in the decisions that make our laws. I honestly don't understand why anyone cares what the man says or thinks.

I can understand why people would care what this guy says. I could understand why it would upset people both gay and straight. I could understand why people would choose to boycott Chick-Fil-A and I could also see why people would choose to stand in line for an hour at a Chick-Fil-A to prove a point.
That's why I think America is a great country once you get below our two party political system. We all have the right to make our points known as long as it is done in a peaceful manner.
Personally I think what this guy said is ignorant but I will probably eat at a Chick-Fil-A sometime in my life again because I will simply forget about this incident in 6 months or so.
I'm just happy we live in a country where we can have this discussion.

captain, i still disagree. when people of influence and obviously this guy qualifies, makes discriminatory statements, it affects other people, as it has done. as a gay person, i'd be very pissed because it would be going towards my basic human dignity- who i want to be with as a consenting adult and i don't need a bunch of religious freaks telling me i can't be with that person, just like you or i wouldn't want a bunch of religious nuts saying we couldn't marry women. as a heterosexual, i'm bothered by it because i don't like bigots/racists, especially hypocritical ones who use and abuse religion and jesus's name to spread his hate and ignorance.
now, if this was bubba at the trailer park eyeballing his first cousin playing tether ball in the yard saying shit about gays, i don't care. actually, this is bubba the redneck saying it but he has a lot of influence so it's a problem.
that being said, he has a right to say it and his business shouldn't be penalized by our government. but whether it's the klan or some christian wacko making discriminatory statements in public, i think people can and should get upset about it whether you are the specific group targeted or not. wouldn't jesus?

so if we agree he has the right to say what he wants, and his business shouldn't be penalized by the gov't, what are we disagreeing on?? that he affects/influences you/others more than me?? his opinion means the same to me as tether ball playing Bubba.
i make no claims to what jesus would or wouldn't do and keep my religious beliefs to myself, for the most part

i disagree with the comment that it's a shame that the gay community asks for tolerance yet is intolerant of other opinions. that wasn't your comment but the quote that you posted.
i don't think that has any application here any more than saying it's a shame black people ask for tolerance and equality yet are intolerant of people who are racist towards them. i think the gay community should ask for tolerance and shouldn't have to tolerate or accept bigoted opinions. i think we need to suppress hateful, bigoted opinions whether against blacks, gays, etc today just like we did to some extent in the 60's.
i also disagree that no one should care what this guy thinks because he has influence as evidenced by the fact that a lot of idiots have rallied around his bigoted views.
finally, i know what jesus would have done because vanzack has told me and i spoke to him (jesus, not vanzack, assuming they are not one and the same) when i shroomed in college.

Congratulations for all the people yesterday standing up for their 1st amendment rights and supporting Chick-Fil-A. Chick-Fil-a broke record one day sales all over the country. Take that mayors of Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco, we have something in this country called free speech. And I think Chick-Fil-A corporate should send Mike Huckabee a thank you card for getting this started. People were willing to wait an hour in their car, or in the heat for a chicken sandwich. Just think about that, November is coming, and it won't be long now..........

see, i agree with frontrow 100%. for everyone who stood in line at chick-fil-a in the middle of the day on a wednesday, when they knew their welfare check was waiting for them at the end of the normal line they stand in on the first day of the month, because of these idiot politicians' comments and to support the first amendment, more power to them. people should have a right to express any opinion they want without the government getting involved.
if you stood in line for that fake family values hypocritical bigoted bullshit like many of these vocal christian nuts, then i think you're pathetic and an affront to the people who truly follow the more difficult path set forth by jesus as wallstreet mentioned.

Fascism defined ~ a governmental system lead by a dictator having complete power, forcibly suppressing opposition and criticism, regimenting all industry, commerce etc, and emphasizing an aggressive nationalism and sometimes racism.

People can believe what they want to believe, and it is a choice for people to go to Chick-Fil_A or not, but what shouldn't happen is the mayors of Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco to tell Chick-Fil-A they are not welcome in their cities.

That is quite false..as leaders of communities, if they think a company is not in the best interests of the community for whatever reason, they have to make the best decision to welcome or excuse the company from doing business there.
Obvious examples are strip clubs, porn shops, smoke shops, any racial/ethnic/religious biased businesses.
What the leaders did was correct given they feel Dan is biased and is outwardly and financially forwarding his biases through the business.

I see the point for Strip Clubs and other businesses, but to say Chick-Fil-A is not welcome is a serious overreach and is wrong. If Chick-Fil-A discriminated towards customers or employees I would agree with you, but they don't. This is the personal feelings of the CEO. #Freespeech

why do you see the point with strip clubs but not chick-fil-a? are the first amendment rights of strip clubs less than those of companies that sell hormone chicken?

Wall, what the cities are attempting to do would be deemed discrimination by the courts. The cities better find another angle if they don;t want to pay out the ass.

Not sure that will happen nor would CF win in court.
Municipalities have some room to make a judgement call, it happens all the time.
I dont see much difference between what Dan is doing and other more obvious moral concerns.
I also find it quite peculiar and polarizing that people would patronize these places on a certain day to in a sense agree with the actions of the company..what does this say about our population?
Bottom line though..he and his father are not acting Christ-like by doing things as they are..and any real "Christian" can sniff out their biases and ugly behavior and should not support what they are doing.

well it is a rather polarizing subject to many, roughly 50-50 if i am remembering the polling numbers correctly. Hell, even the ACLU is backing CF in regards to the cities being wrong.

Wall, my main point is if Dan Cathy wants to voice his opinions of traditional marriage, qoutes the Bible, have at it. He backs up and reinforces his convictions by making all CF restaurants close on Sunday. That's his choice.
The record turnout Wednesday was very representative of how many Americans passionately support his position. I was totally amazed. The fact so many people waited so long for a meal is similarly amazing. Personally, I would never. Do I think that is rational to spend so much time to show support for one company? That's certainly very debateable. I do observe there is an unbelievable amount of passion concerning this topic.
I could care less what people's personal choices are especially sexual orientation. Everybody has to live with their choices, ie Dan Cathy. Obviously, in the short term CF benefitted from his choice, long term we will see. I do know my family loves CF and will continue to enjoy their great chicken biscuits, sandwiches, nuggets, strips, and waffle fries no matter what their views on this or that are. It's how the food tastes and for what price.
My exception to this is supporting companies OWNED by certain people (inc different nationalities) that I choose NOT to spend my $$ with. I know that sounds discrimating but EVERY PERSON on this earth has their own likes and dislikes unque to themselves based on their own race, sex, upbringing, morals, and values. Everybody discriminates sublimilaly or not. That's what makes America so great. We have sooo many choices at our disposal.
