The primary reason was that he knew the time was right to get out. He was not popular with Tech fans who are still pining for Leach. The down-the-stretch complete collapse of the team turned around any positive feeling fans had of him after a good start.
He risked getting fired at Tech in the next couple of years. Add that to the sideline incident and probably a better deal and he hit the road.
He also apparently does not like coaching in the Big 12 according to reports as a defensive-minded coach. He had a friend at Cincy in the AD and took him up on the offer. Probably a good decision

When I say that Tuberville was not popular with Tech fans, what I mean is that he was unpopular. Tech fans are ecstatic and hoping for Kliff Kingsbury as head coach. The Tech administration needs to get this one right with the fans so expect Kingsbury to get hired unless they pull a miracle and get Briles.

All schools are Over Exepectant from Coaches and their Football Program, Every program is striving for the same thing....and not every team can win 10 games a year!!! Not many Good candidates ..i would be surprised if the hire was not from Within!!
Did he recruit Cam Newton or did Chizick?? Is Auburn ever going to get hit with probation or anything?? Or is it not if but when??? Finebaum said Chizick cheated also!!

True enough. But Tech fans didn't like him regardless. Fans and administration are not realists which is why 7-5 coaches are routinely fired.
The hire may come from within if they hire the current OC. They will hire an offensive-minded coach as that is Tech's identity. Kingsbury would be considered a within hire because he was a 4-year starter at Tech and a Leach protege. He has coached the Heisman Trophy winner which is another selling point. He only has 2 years coaching experience so it will be a high-risk move if they go that direction. But the fanbase will not care. They want what they want.

Tubby's wife ran a red light in Lubbock and killed somebody. Probably helped in his decision to leave.
well, kind of killed someone, he died months after the accident, and was 73 yrs old, could have been combination of the accident plus old age, not exactly a slam dunk case, he died in feb and now its dec,

Still doesn't change the fact that she hit simebody, and they died. She would probably like to get as far away from that memory as she can get...As far as Tubby's reason for leaving, I've heard that he's been endlessly frustrated at not being able to put together a defense that can stop these high powered Big 12 spreads. I think he functions better and is more comfrotable in a conference like the SEC. Arky probably would have been a good job for him. But when it didn't happen, he was probably just looking for a job where he thinks he can be competetive within a conference. Cincy looks like a good fit for him. Although there is still a danger that he could end up back in the Big 12 if they should ever decide to expand.

The weather is much better in Lubbock. Hardly a winter to speak of, very little snow. Great economy. Ranked on Forbes top 20 of smaller cities. Great college. Not far from Dallas if you want the big city and some pro sports. One of the best basketball arenas in the country, which also draws some great concerts of all kind. And no state income tax in Texas. Think I would prefer Lubbock over Cicny myself. This is a personal move for Tubberville for sure. His wife has been in 3 accidents total, a high school kid was killed walking home after consuming alchohol at his kids party, the incident on the sideline, etc etc. We may never know the biggest reason he left. Probably getting heat on many levels and wants a fresh start. Good luck to him, seems like a decent guy.

um -- have you ever been to Lubbock? You are giving it way too much credit.
And it is almost 400 miles from Dallas. Not that close.

I'm from Minnesota and live in Lubbock and their is no winter here to speak of. The average high temp in January is 54 February 57 March 64 November 63 December 55. That's like Hawaii compared to where I'm from and a paradise compared to Cincy. There is hardly ever any snow, and when it comes it's gone in a day or two. When temps are regularly in the fifties during December January and February and often hit the sixties, I don't consider that much of a winter. I'm not worried about the upper twenties and thirties at night when it gets that nice in the day. I've been here for years and hardly ever have to break out a winter coat. Believe me, my years in Minnesota have taught what a real winter is about and it doesn't exist in Lubbock. And Dallas is a 4 and a half hour drive or a quick flight for 79 bucks- so Dallas is an easy trip. Anyway, with or without Tubberville, Texas Tech should clobber the Gophers in the bowl game.

I am also a Northerner (raised in Delaware) who now lives in Texas (been in DFW / Austin since 1997). While I agree that the winter weather in Texas is very pleasant it is completely unfair to go down that road without also mentioning that brutality of late May through late September.
