It's clearly 1984
they love it... everyone signs up happily and on purpose.

#27 Posted: 6/26/2012 10:29:21 PM then the user proceeds to willingly divulge everything from pictures, likes, vacations, and every important and unimportant detail for years on end. you couldn't buy this from anyone for years and now those same people give it away for free. what's changed? |

(New York Times 15 minutes ago) Facebookâs stock lost 18 percent of its value Thursday. The first blow came during regular trading largely because of the poor results posted by Zynga, the social game company that uses Facebook as a platform. But the stock continued to plummet in after-hours trading after Facebook announced its own numbers, dipping below $24, a record low. Since going public two months ago at $38 a share, Facebook shares have lost 37 percent of their value. |

You do realize websites and companies/products pay fb to have those links. Sure it is free to you but that click just cost somebody $.10 to $2 per click for you to click that link and look at whatever it was you clicked. |

#39 Posted: 7/31/2012 12:32:04 AM Some people overuse it, of course, but Facebook has value. Aside from keeping up with family and friends, it's a good way to get info about stuff you're interested in -- TV shows, products, musicians, etc.

#41 Posted: 8/2/2012 4:18:48 PM SAN FRANCISCO | Thu Aug 2, 2012 3:52pm EDT (Reuters) - Shares of Facebook Inc dipped below $20 for the first time on Thursday, pummeled by ongoing doubts about its growth prospects, a string of recent executive departures, and the August 16 expiration of a lockup period on insiders' share sales. The stock hit a low of $19.82 in heavy trading on Thursday afternoon. It has now lost almost half its value since debuting at $38 in May in the largest IPO ever to emerge from Silicon Valley.
