http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/7916652/philadelphia-flyers-gm-paul-holmgren-says-ilya-bryzgalov-reach-expectations
VOORHEES, N.J. -- Ilya Bryzgalov had plenty of time this season to babble on about bears, the universe, the woods, and other arcane bits of knowledge.
He kept quiet on Thursday.
Staying out of the locker room on the day Philadelphia packed up and headed home might be the first sign the Flyers' quirky goalie learned a lesson that he's paid $51 million to win games and not play the room like a late night talk show host.
Bryzgalov
"His job is to stop pucks and help us win games," Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren said. "It's not Comedy Central."

#6 Posted: 5/13/2012 3:15:30 AM It's always the goalies fault, it has nothing to do with a below average D core or lack of a shutdown checking line, maybe trading Richards wasn't such a good idea after all. |

#7 Posted: 5/13/2012 3:24:19 AM Seriously...I never thought Bryz played well in either series but for the GM to cal him out like that is pretty rediculous. Almost every game the Devils outshot the Flyers 2:1, I bet if the Flyers put up 40 shots each game against the Devils then Brodeur would have let in about 3-4 each game |

I didn't see anyone posting he was the sole reason the Flyers lost. As for your opinion about game's 3,4 & 5 well that's what it is, an opinion. I might counter that had Philly had King Henrik in goal, their results in those games would have been dramatically better. Bottom line is, Philly is gone because the players in front of Bryz knew unless they tallied a lot of goals, they were in deep doo-doo. That psychologically wears on a team, night in and night out. They couldn't trust their goalie to have their backs on a bad offensive night, and that wore them down, in part a factor that led to the bad play your comment alluded to. |

Holmgren should be fired for giving this Russian powder puff that obscene contract.

Holmgren should just keep watching the replay of his 51 milion dollar investment scoring on himself.

This has always been a problem with the Flyer management.... Calling people out like that NEVER solves anything....... It is counter productive and more Holmgren blaming himself for the contract than the contract itself.... Clarkie was always using the media to vent......... Still going on............... |

#14 Posted: 5/13/2012 2:56:20 PM He wasn't the sole reason, but he did not play as well as he should have. Think the Caps could have the same gripe about thier big off season goaltender signing. |

You mean Vokoun and his 1 year 1.5 mil contract? That was a cheap mistake. |

It was a cheap mistake. But a goaltender that didn't live up to his hype and a mistake none the less |

#18 Posted: 5/13/2012 6:37:13 PM After looking at a few things Vokoun and his 25wins and 2.53gaa is actually decent value for the 1.5, played about half the games. The Caps issues are far worse than that like for example yet another disappoiting season from Ovie and whatever the darn they paid Semin this year, not to mention getting jack garbage out of Mike Green, their scoring depth is half of what it was 3 years ago. Most GM's in the league has a lot to think about going into the draft this june. |
