I'm hearing that the first thing president Obama said when notified about the shootings in Afghanistan ......the soldier acted stupidly ..

The soldier has now been flown out of Afghanistan to a pretrial confinement facility in another country...,and after four days we still don't know the his name .......

I think it's a good thing we don't know his name.

He carried out a horrific crime that many will want payback for.

This isn't Mai Lai and the Vietnamese culture.

The people in Afghanistan might want their pound of flesh and take it out on this guys wife, children, parents, siblings etc.

All the above would also be innocent victims.

We will get his name soon enough

Here is a question for the next POTUS

This guy is said to have a brain injury
If he did and he was not competent by reasons of insanity during the murdering, does this guy go on trial?

If we are still in Afghanistan and this guy is ruled incompetent that will be a major can of worms over there

It's being reported that the accused American American staff sergeant was flown to a detention site in Kuwait from Afghanistan and will be transfer to the United States..

After Kuwait learned of the sergeant’s move to an American base on Kuwaiti territory there was a uproar ,,because the United States government did not alert the Kuwaitis about the move beforehand ..

Five days now and the soldier is still anonymous........

well, those are two different issues.  insanity generally means he didn't know right from wrong at the time of the act.  and you do have a trial to see if the jury buys that defense.  incompetence generally means you aren't mentally together enough to understand the proceedings and assist in your defense.  that's a pretrial determination and if he is incompetent, he doesn't have a trial until he becomes competent.

what is the evidence that he was insane?

incompetence is relevant at the time the case is before the court, not at the time of the act.

The accused soldier has been identified as Army Staff Sgt. Robert Bales from Lake Tapps, Wash....assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Stryker Brigade Combat Team, of the 2nd Infantry Division...

..and is now in solitary confinement at Fort Leavenworth,Kansas.

His defense lawyer said the day before the shooting spree, the soldier saw his friend’s leg blown off...

Temporary insanity ?

i'm not sure temporary insanity exists anymore but if it does, i can't imagine that would be anywhere near sufficient.

I have no idea what levels need to be met in the military but even if normally this guy would be ruled incompetent at the time of the crime, that will be a political nightmare for whomever is the POTUS

wouldnt be surprised if this guy is found dead in his jail cell to take that option off the table
