I was issued an Canadian Check, from a withdraw request from a sports book. I deposited the check to my account using an atm machine.  A day later I was called by my financial institution stating the bank that it was deposited through would not credit the funds due to it being a foreign ck, now it will take up to 3 to 4 weeks before it is straitened out.
Anyone else run into this problem?

There's your problem.

Walk up to the teller and let her know it's a foreign check.  I cash my Canadian "Cheques" without any issue.

As mentioned above, foreign checks cannot be deposited via ATM. If you go inside, it shouldn't be a problem. Generally, they place a hold on it for one day and then it is cleared.

For Canadian checks the routing number is different so they have to put a 0 or 1 in front of the routing number for it to go through. Most tellers don't know how to do this and will call for a supervisor.

The only other issue is determining whether the check is in US funds or not, but the check usually makes it clear. Otherwise, there should be no issues with Canadian checks.

Mine are always clearly marked US FUNDS.
