#2 Posted: 4/6/2008 1:02:20 AM FIRST. And I would like to say that Kansas is the winner here. They aren't as star-studded and don't have any top 5 picks so they won't get the ESPN love like Memphis but top to bottom they are hands down the best team in the nation. Wait and see. |

#3 Posted: 4/6/2008 2:25:13 AM Um, KU's talent is as good--and probably better--that anybody in the nation. Top 5 in the lottery --perhaps not-- but anyone who follows the game knows that their talent as a whole is the best in the nation (and their roster certainly includes some legit studs). I think even ESPN--who has negligible credibility in my book--even knows that.
And going beyond talent, their DEFENSE has done it all. When KU looked like crap tonight for 20 minutes, it was the D that ended up prevailing. 17 TOs usually means a loss, but it was the perimeter D that gave them the win in the face of adversity from that sham of a team from Chapel Hill.
I also think that the ride for Memphis comes to an end on Monday. Collins will provide the best matchup for Rose of any guard so far, and CDR won't have his way against the best goddamn D in the nation (UCLA, you're not even close to KU's D).

#4 Posted: 4/6/2008 4:32:00 AM i picked KU to win it all going into the round of 16, and i'm still sticking with it... but i think you guys are wrong to dismiss Memphis too quickly... they are better than UNC... what they did tonight didn't shock me... but if they do that to Memphis it will... Kansas may be the best team top to bottom, but Memphis is a very close second...
this is a great matchup! i'm lovin' it! probably won't be it, because i have money on Kansas to win it all anyway, and don't see any reason to hedge it...
gl to all bettors... great tourney! |

#5 Posted: 4/6/2008 7:37:36 AM Not so fast my homies.....Did you see how NC almost made the biggest comeback in NCAA history last night? That is how Memphis plays the whole game. UCLA was one of the best defensive teams in the country and Memphis shredded them. This game will be closer, but Memphis will prove they are the best team in the country. CDR and Rose are unstoppable and everyone knows it. Ask UCLA players and backers who wins this game.

Kong, first off wanted to say you have been a good sport by not getting pissed off and laughing at yourself when your picks didn´t go through . Much appreciated and refreshing
Memphis is SO damn good in the backcourt with CDR and Rose and obviously the quickness and penetration of Kansas is deadly too along with accurate passing. But Kansas wasn´t playing smart, controlled basketball when they were up 40-12. Didn´t work the shot clock long enough and in that case the ¨coaching tangible came into play¨. Self is fortunate that the 1st half was coming to a close. His boys were winded.
Kansas had to be inspired after witnessing their reserve guard going down with the injury in practice and Memphis as well loosing Allen to the suspension. It´s like seeing someone confined to a wheelchair with a terminal illness. Be thankful for what you´ve got, play hard or go home. Memphis & Kansas have to be a bit more conservative in the title game. Who is more disciplined, with a better half court game will decide the outcome.
will post tomorrow with final pick after visting my Sportsbook |

#12 Posted: 4/6/2008 4:44:46 PM Kansas is worn out after their win...They had added motivation to beat Roy Williams!
Memphis has cruised against good teams.
I expect everyone will be on Kansas, just like every other team Memphis
has played the last couple weeks! I think they have proved they are
more than worthy and they won't lose in the Alamo Dome 2 years straight!
Plus Memphis could beat the Grizzlies!!!

#13 Posted: 4/6/2008 6:50:25 PM I'm going to let you guys drive up the line and then take KU right before the game . After watching them dismantle UNC, I think they are playing the best ball right now. Kinda sad this is the final game. GLTA |

#15 Posted: 4/6/2008 10:28:23 PM Kansas and the UNDER. Defense will control this game and Kansas has a better one than Memphis. Neither team is "wore out" after Saturday's games BTW. ADRENALIN folks, these kids will ALL be ready to play on 2 days rest...Hell they could have played this game today and been pumped up and ready to play, BOTH of these teams. UCLA has good defense, but had no offense to back any of it up, for any of you people saying "Well UCLA has good D and look what Memphis did to them". Kansas will produce turnovers like they did during the UNC game, they will outrebound Memphis on the boards, AND their offense will score points. It will be a tight game but I DO believe that the KU D will prevail in this game (and dammit I have said this in about every Memphis forum and it still hasn't happened in the tourney yet) but I think that in a game like this one, "Prime Time Championship TV", Kansas may decide to foul foul foul at the end of the game if need be and Memphis will MISS MISS MISS from the line....that 60% FT% has to haunt them SOMEtime. Just my thoughts, leaving out any #'s and stats, just going with my gut....low scoring game coming down to the last .36 seconds of the game. GL

#16 Posted: 4/6/2008 10:41:38 PM The two best teams in the nation. Both bring stellar offense and defense and either one could win, this should be close all the way. I suppose Memphis is favored because they've been more consistent (Kansas took 15 minutes of the UNC game off, but after building a 28 point lead on one of the top 5 teams in the country, they sort of deserved it) but I can't help thinking if both teams play their best game KU wins. Kansas has shown flashes of greatness that would wipe any team in the nation off the court. They did it twice against UNC and against Texas in the Big twelve championship game where the barely missed a shot against Texas. Memphis is almost as good as Kansas and has proved more consistent. Antonio Anderson's defense has destroyed the last three small guards he's faced and has held Texas and UCLA to two of their worst offensive performances of the year beacuse he tied Collison and Augustin into knots. I don't see him having a similar impact on this game. Kansas is too big and too diverse to be derailed by one great defensive player. Make no mistake the Memphis defense is far more than just Anderson, but the soft spot of that defense is the relative lack of talented big men. Dorsey is great, but Dozier is a bit wispy to bang with the likes of Jackson, Arthur, Kaun and now Aldrich and Taggart also likes to drift out to the perimeter. Kansas is more able to absorb foul trouble and more likely to make points on the offensive glass. Both teams will probably try to get out in transition to avoid having to score against half court defenses that can be oppressive but both also have altheticism and depth to prevent easy run outs. I like Kansas to win a close game on the strength of its front court scoring and offensive rebounding. I think the total is a bit high too as some big game pressure and truly great defense should keep this game close to 140. especially if it is close and possessions become slow and deliberate in the last five minutes. Kansas 70-67. But if Kansas shows anything less than maximum effort (or if Rush settles for contested jumpers over Anderson) Memphis will beat them.

Tough azz call gentlemen.
Kansas- better FT shooting, better inside, have bigger guards than likes of Collison/Augistin/Neitzel to match up with Memphis. If Bill Self is a coach, they will make Memphis win by hitting contested jumpshots. Also agreed that we could see some sort of hack a shaq and make memphis hit FT's. I believe that the FT shooting would have to correct some time, right?
Memphis- playing better than ANYONE in country. Have beat better teams than KU has. KU beat TX and lost to them once. They also beat UNC. Memphis beat TX, UCLA, Gtown, Uconn, and others. Memphis has best defense in America, yes better than KU. Long and athletic, have depth, have chip on shoulder, have been hitting FT's.
Man i'm totally lost on this one. If Memphis wins, I will place 2 brackets 2nd and 3rd, so I'll probably take KU moneyline to hedge BUT damn this is a tough azz game and I hope it's a great one.
Damn refs better stay out of this one!!! |

As was stated already, Memphis has played and beaten a higher top tier of competition than has Kansas. Memphis and Kansas are comparable, athletically, which might surprise Kansas. Has Kansas played and performed against a defense as good and lengthy as Memphis? We know Memphis has, and won (i.e. Georgetown, Mississippi St, UCONN, UCLA, etc).
As long as Rose is healthy--not ailing from any stomach disorder as reported--Memphis should cover.

#23 Posted: 4/7/2008 4:09:39 AM My calculation goes to Kansas by 3 but, got my money on Memphis half & gam.
The total points average is 142 but, since it is for the championship, I'll go OVER the total. |

#24 Posted: 4/7/2008 4:14:37 AM My bracket is lookin so good with all the #1's in the final four, and Kansas and Memphis in the final.
I will have to follow it and go with Kansas to win it all.
Yes the Tigers could probably beat the Grizzlies with their talent.

#25 Posted: 4/7/2008 6:49:59 AM Memphis should win this one. Kansas, while impressive in the first half against UNC, left me unimpressed when they let their lead slip away in the 2nd half. As the commentators pointed out, it was obvious Kansas had a WORRIED sense about them during UNC's comeback. So did I since I took Kansas in the second half getting 8. They went from playing with confidence and smiles in the first half, to looking sloppy, vulnerable, and bewildered in the second half before pulling it together and finishing strong. They cannot afford those silly mistakes against Memphis at ANY point during the game.
Consistency is the factor I'm looking at here. Kansas can go on a few random runs during a game but Memphis' entire game appears to be one steady run, never squandering a lead once established. Memphis started slow in the first FEW mins against UCLA, but once they got the lead, they never lost it, or let it chip away. In their posessions, they SCORE on a consistent basis allowing them to rarely lose leads, only build on them.
I also see Memphis having a slight edge on Kansas in terms of athleticism and power. These Memphis guys are NBA-calibur athletes who may have been purposely missing free throws all year just to f#ck with us. They seem to shoot them fine now... in tourney time when it matters. Kansas is no joke either, I just see Memphis with a slight edge.
The way I see it... you can count on Memphis playing strong Monday night or any other night for that matter. I hope Kansas does as well so we see a great game, but I got my $$ on the Tigers. |
