I also do not see how you can take out a dictator who has control over the different religious groups and then just immediately leave. The fact that this region has religious fighting pretty much means there is NO chance for peace and thus success.
When religious group are fighting, there is no solution and the loss of life will never stop. The only solution to religious fighting is someone to FORCE the groups apart, there is no other way.

SS is spot on here. Also, while I do not agree w bush doctrine or its application to Iraq, the fact remains that the invasion of Iraq was an overwhelming success. It was the occupation of Iraq afterward that will go down as 1 of biggest blunders of US history. People seem to lose sight of this distinction.
