When asked about the unfolding conflict in Syria last year President Obama said "that a red line for us is we start seeing a whole bunch of chemical weapons moving around or being utilized......
WASHINGTON, Aug 23 (Reuters) - U.S. and allied intelligence agencies have made a preliminary assessment that chemical weapons were used by Syrian forces in an attack near Damascus this week, likely with high-level approval from the government of President Bashar al-Assad, according to American and European security sources.
Up to 1,300 people men, women and children are reported to have been killed in the attack on rebel held areas in east Damascus.
"What we've seen indicates that this is clearly a big event, of grave concern," Obama said in an interview on CNN's "New Day" program that aired on Friday...
Muammar Gaddafi only threatened to slaughtered people in Benghazi and Obama used military intervention in Libya.... Bashar Hafez al-Assad actually slaughters over 100,000 people some possibly with WMD's ..and it's called a grave concern..
The families of the dead body's have the real grave concerns..
"Q" ..We didn't find any WMD's in Iraq.. where did Syria get these WMD's?
..and assuming the preliminary assessments are correct, that Obama's red line has been crossed ..
Now what ?
||fingershake.gif' border=0> al-Assad you better not cross the blue line- (that would be an even bigger event )- and if you cross both the red and blue lines I will have to call an offsides.

There is no way, and I stress, no way, the left will ever allow the truth to come out, if it is discovered they came from Iraq. The "Bush Lied" narrative is as powerful as the Catholic Church's narrative during the middle ages about the earth being the center of the universe.
They will fight it tooth and nail. You think the left are passionate about protecting Obama's legacy? They are twice as passionate about destroying Bush's legacy.

I could be wrong but didn't Colin Powell testify before the UN that mobile labs were moving the WMDs TO SYRIA
This would support Nizar Nayouf, an award-winning Syrian journalist who said in 2004... that his sources confirmed that Saddam Hussein’s WMDs were in Syria.

The idea that these chemical weapons are from Iraq is laughable
if the Bush administration knew that Saddam was moving WMD to Syria, why did they not destroy those weapons or invade Syria ?
why did Saddam have to lose ?
Saddam used chemical weapons against his own people.
He wouldn't hesitate to use them against U.S forces
I don't trust Putin and the Russian government ( Syria, Snowden ..etc)
Russia has maintained close ties with Syria since the 1950s
Syria one of few states that did not condemn USSR for occupying Afghanistan
Russia revitalized their naval facilities in Syrian port of Tartus in recent years
Russia fears losing influence in its biggest Middle East ally if the al-Assad regime falls
Syria has strong military cooperation and economic relations with Russia.
Russia is supporting Syria , thus allowing Al_Assad regime to hold power
Russia was one of two countries to vote against a formal UN Security Council condemnation of the Bashir al-Assad government for its attack on civilians in the city of Homs in February 2012. It also opposed any sanctions or intervention against the regime.
Besides lucrative arms contracts worth at least $4 billion, Russian
firms have a substantial presence in Syria's infrastructure, energy and
tourism industries.
The Russians are already involved in pro-Syrian propaganda regarding the chemical attack
Materials implicating Syrian govt in chemical attack prepared before incident – Russia
Materials implicating the forces of Syrian president Bashar Assad in
chemical weapons use near Damascus were prepared prior to the alleged
incident on August 21, the Russian foreign ministry said.

Not to worry, we are in good hands with this President. Remember, he didn't set a time line warning. He is Cool under pressure, He is not a hot-head Bush type.
Furthermore, he has does a pretty darn good job in ended the war in Iraq, and winding down the one in Afghanistan. Not to mention, Killing Osama , and killing top terrorists.
I'd suggest a drone strike on Assad, not a cruise missile. If in fact it is proven that he has used chemical weapons.
Or perhaps Sarasota Sly would want to volunteer to go fight them, since he seems to want a impulsive reaction from the President.

Don juan,
It's President Obama that gave the stern warning and had an impulsive reaction to Syria ..not SarasotaSlim. I say let them settle their own civil war..
It was Obama who said.. use of chemical weapons would be a “game changer” for his Syrian policy, the problem is,his red line keeps moving and moving..Obama’s Syria policy has been one of “leading from behind like the rest of his policies.. ”But,his statement was a big mistake and he has stuck his foot into it now..
Obama has put this country's credibility on the line. A line that he himself has drawn....drawing a “red line” over the use of chemical weapons wasn’t really a good idea ...although you would probably disagree with me on that point...

Sly, that;s the same thing G.W Bush said about Kosovo when he was a candidate for president. He said, it's not our problem. Milosevic was committing atrocities.
Clinton settled it without troops on the ground.
I'm saying take Assad out with a drone. Warn him with it first, if doesn't change, lob one on him.

Juan,
Bush criticized President Clinton's cautious conduct of the war, he said it was mistake for Clinton to say at the outset that U.S. soldiers would not be sent to fight in Yugoslavia....
Bush was right.... 11,400 US ground troops were eventually sent to Yugoslavia..because the air strikes that were killing men ,women and children had achieved little..
Like in Syria and Libya we should stay out of events around the world, that do not threaten vital U.S. national interests ...
Clinton's legacy in Kosovo .........Kosovo is now a haven for Muslim terrorists..

you do realize that Syria has a quite competent air force and anti aircraft defenses right? Is this drone going to be magical? because lacking some transcendent properties, a massive cruise missile assault on air assets and air defense assets would be a necessary prerequisite, as well as having the intelligence assets necessary to ascertain the location of assad and his cadre. But its so much easier to just flaunt some imaginary capability, right? On a more sober note, dirt is spot on. We are about to get in bed with some very unsavory characters if we intervene, which at this point seems inevitable. In fact I wouldn't put it beyond al nusra and the other jihadi rebels to gas their own people in a false flag operation to get western military intervention. By all accounts, assads forces have turned the tide, and by all reports assad, is a brutal, sober Machiavellian dictator. Why would he snatch defeat from the jaws of victory by doing the one thing that was pretty well guaranteed to get the west involved? Also, how are we going to control the aftermath without boots on the ground? the sunni jihadis will slaughter every Christian and alawite that cant flee to the last child...

Let them kill each other. Neither side is someone we want to be friends with. Not to mention we got enough problems here at home to deal with.
A simple cost-benefit analysis will tell you what the right thing to do is here.
Tell Samantha Power and John McCain and all the interventionist crazies to STFU.
Exactly. In addition to everything I just said, we run a very serious risk of at least some sort of Iranian retaliation and a proxy war with an increasingly grumpy Russian bear. I fail to see how we have a dog in this fight, other than the usual military industrial complex suspects. The civil war in DR congo has killed millions and no one gives a damn, hell our own civil war killed 600k, why not sit this one out and let the Syrians fight their own battle? The same pukes who want to murder us for not treating women like chattel want our air support and heavy weaponry? F'em. Most of the original secular elements of the rebellion have already fled or been killed by the jihadis. If we had to stick our noses in this shitpile, the time would have been two years ago.

And former Iraqi General, Georges Sada, who claimed the same thing.
So does Retired U.S. Army Maj. Gen. Paul Vallely... he has confirmation that Syrian forces have used chemical weapons against rebel forces and civilians, and those weapons are likely stockpiles received from Iraq prior to the U.S.-led invasion 10 years ago.
Vallely’s more stunning revelation is that he is virtually certain that Syria is in possession of Saddam Hussein’s old arsenal of weapons of mass destruction and some of those may be on display in this civil war.
“If you go back to January through March of 2003, we had intelligence in the Defense Department that the Russians helped move, by convoy, a lot of the chemical and biological weapons into two locations in Syria and one in the Bekaa Valley in Lebanon,” Vallely said. “We think Russia and Iran have enhanced their inventory. The vast majority of those chemical and biological weapons were from Iraq.”

The Russians already knew this administration was dumb and uninformed internationally when Secretary of State Hillary Clinton greeted Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Geneva in 2009 with a small green box with a ribbon..
...."I would like to present you with a little gift that represents what President Obama and Vice President Biden and I have been saying and that is: 'We want to reset our relationship, and so we will do it together.' ...
When Lavrov opened it and, inside, there was a red button with the Russian word“peregruzka” printed on it.
You got it wrong," said Lavrov, “It should be “perezagruzka” [the Russian word for reset]," said Lavrov."This says ‘peregruzka,’ which means ‘overcharged.’”
What an embarrassment this Obama administration has become..

well, the natural gas angle is at least something tangible, it's certainly better than this freedom bullshit or pretending to case about chemical weapons. and of course, the need to justify a $680 billion taxpayer wasted, i mean funded, defense budget.
