Money
is always important in politics, but never more than now.
Since the 1900s you look back at how legislators and reformers have tried to reduce the influence of money... how its raised, how much is raised, disclosing such contributors.
If you take a look at how how much the Obama campaigned raised and the Romney campaign raised there is a clear distinction which party has more of the wealthy supporters particularly the Super PACS and the outside spending, although Obama did out fund raise Romney.
Personally I think that money should be unlimited because this is the United States of America and we live in a free market capitalistic society which shouldn't restrict the amount of money you can donate to a campaign to 5,000 or candidates themselves spending money.
However if these super PACS are going donate money independently of the campaigns required by current law, the donors I feel should be open and known to the public as to who is making these donations to the NRA, Restore Our Future, American Crossroads, Americans for Prosperity, American Future fund, Planned Parenthood, Priorities USA Action, etc...
Do
candidates, especially non-incumbents, have enough money to get their message
out?Do wealthy candidates have too
much? Are
campaign contributions an exercise in free speech, which under the 1st
Amendment should be protected? Should
there be public disclosure of donations or should they be secret?

That's what I'm saying though lords, times have changed.. Money is everything. If you don't have the money to raise for a campaign you're not winning elections.

If, as reported the Obama IRS leaked donor information why not make it public?

I think corp money should be banned from poltics personally.
How much did Carter and Reagan spend to get elected?
you sound like a liberal whining about corporations...
remember the secret to success in this country is to promote and support corporations having as much power and money as possible... this is good for the economy, jobs and the nation...
that in a desert where millions are dying of thirst, we should pump the rich guys who are already bloated from drinking water all day and take the limited water we have and beg for them to drink it... so we can wait patiently at the pants leg with our mouths open waiting for what "trickles down"
