Should there be a morning prayer in public schools that is universalized or specific....
It almost touches base with the fact that most schools sing the national anthem and gain a sense of community through our nation but should schools take it a step farther..?
Should we say something like Baruch atah Adonai elohaynu melech ha'olam asher kidshanu bemitzvotav vetzivanu l'hadlik ner shel Shabbat.
Is that what we should all be saying in public schools?
Anyone?

this is kind of like my idea of not separating religion and state. if the rightwingnuts continue to insist on the christian taliban model, let's do away with separation of religion and state and integrate the two.
but i think we should rotate the religions. each religion gets 6 months as the official religion of the united states. there are thousands of religions so the average person won't see many of them but the benefit would be that each religion's business model would get a fair chance to sell itself. we start with islam since that's getting a bad rap. god knows we've had enough christianity to last us a lifetime or 3. at the end of 6 months, we have like a bingo drawing where we decide what the next religion should be.
i never understood why so many people choose the religion of their parents, outside of the control issue. why would someone choose the only religion they were exposed to without exploring the thousands of others? it's like marrying the first girl (or in rightwingland, boy) you meet without ever exploring any other relationships. this system would give people a better perspective on which religion is best.
who's with me?

I absolutely see the truth to that, and some people do convert to different religions.
That's a funny way to see it though, hahaha with rotating the religions every 6 months... Good idea!

I think people should do whatever they individually choose to... so I am not against prayer in schools... but I am against people who are paid by tax payer's dollars to lead a prayer... or to Spend tax payer's dollars on displays, rituals, celebrations, promotion or teaching of any religion...
but like dirt said... if the rightwingnuts continue to insist on the christian taliban model, let's do away with separation of religion and state and integrate the two.
but every semester you have to practice a different religion that is imposed on you to be devoted to with an appearance of inspiration and seriousness or you fail the class and cant graduate...
so to answer your question stlin, yes you should be forced to say Baruch atah Adonai elohaynu melech ha'olam asher kidshanu bemitzvotav vetzivanu l'hadlik ner shel Shabbat.
but just for one semester

Yup that sounds reasonable.
Focus on a different prayer each semester.

funny how the christian taliban usual suspects get all up in arms about christianity and a christian world view needing to be imposed in the form of religious dictatorship, but when it comes to the hebrew faith they go silent...
Im not one to play the antisemetic card, so I am not going there... just pointing out the obvious...

Then nobody is forcing anything on anybody one way or another I always remember these bitter atheist people running to the schools to protest anything that remotely felt like religion.
Also I remember my parents and several other religious people being quite upset when they showed these creepy videos about how being happy is perfectly natural.

im actually all for prayer in schools... like if campus life wants to conduct their own things independently on campus grounds and pray, they can do so... even given a room for them to conduct their meetings privately and engage in bible study or prayer...
along with people of the hebrew faith as they pay taxes too along with people of other religions... so if any other religion or even another group of christians wanted to start a club of their own and engage in prayer, Im all for it 100%...
This freedom of religion is protected by the first amendment and basic part of the american way...
Where I draw the line is when the religion is imposed upon students by teachers, curriculum, and the school itself... where actual tax payer money from people of a wide and diverse number of religions go towards the imposition of a theocratic dictatorship on schools and academia...
separation of church and state is a basic part of the american way and it puzzles me how certain groups of people are hell-bent on destroying the american way

Sounds like we agree on that then strange how some people have to be so polarized.
On the separation of church and state what do you think of this little video clip. It was made by a passionate fellow named Alex Jones I don't take him too seriously but there are some religious or occultic or christian symbols on Canadian parliament actually quite few here is the clip since we are being thoughful and somewhat useful to eachother.

I will take a look at the clip later tonight when I get a chance...
The problem with polarization is the tactic that you see in the GD where when I take a practical view on things or question people that I automatically get labelled as an atheist... when the reality is that as you can see, I am far from being an atheist...
the problem is that they need to pin a lie on me to argue against because all their prescribed arguments and talking points are tailor-made for atheists...
you clearly see this happen in the politics where the "usual suspects" try to pin the lie on me that I am a liberal because their prescribed arguments and talking points are designed to be adversarial to liberals...
It happens so much that it has become the symbolic "White Flag" waving repeatedly because they Fail in a civil discussion...

Anyone?
Good luck with the Rangers today but as for prayer in schools it should be allowed regardless of whatever religion you believe in.
