Danish MPs call Obama 'assassin 'over drone use...

COPENHAGEN - Danish lawmakers are levelling unprecedented criticism at US President Barack Obama for his use of remote-controlled attack drones in Pakistan, Somalia and Yemen.

Rasmus Helveg Petersen, Radikale foreign policy spokesperson, told Politiken newspaper that Obama’s actions mirror those of the terrorists he professes to be fighting against. “It’s terrible,” said Petersen.

“The United States has no right to carry out these types of executions of suspected political adversaries. It contravenes international law.”

Petersen added that executing political adversaries within another country’s borders was tantamount to terrorism. The comments came after Soren Pind, of the opposition party Venstre, in an interview with the magazine Ræson, likened the drone attacks to ‘assassination’.

(snip

Ole Wæver, who teaches political science at the University of Copenhagen, said that“There has been until now broad political agreement that we stood shoulder to shoulder with the US, but people are slowly realising that the world order is changing,” Wæver told Politiken.

Wæver added that many in Denmark feel that Obama has not lived up to their expectations. “A lot of Danes have felt themselves allied with Obama, but that is not a permanent show of support.  He has used up his goodwill account.”

                         **************

Political leaders are calling President Obama worse than Bush for allowing drone attacks against enemies .

President GWBush was criticised for allowing torture during his presidency...But they are saying.. what Obama is doing is much worse and violates the principals of the Western world.................

I fully endorse the use of drones,  and hope their use is expanded in problem countries.

They can do the job more effectively than boots on the ground without the risk of life.

If a republican President was in office and doing this, the article would have never been posted on this site.

Some of these guys will complain if Obama takes a garbage at 3:00 p.m. instead of 3:02 p.m.

If my life revolved around what the President is doing everyday, i would just put the gun in my mouth.

I can't speak for Slim but I have no problem with drones.

Slim didn't say he didn't like the use of drones. He just posted an article on how Sweden is reacting to it.

I agree with Rush51. By using drones we are getting the bad guys without endangering our troops

That's the point.... He just copies and pastes articles and then italicizes a few quotes from the article inside the post.

Drones are, and have been extremely effective under the Obama administration.

While people girl and whine about how Obama hasn't gotten the unemployment numbers under 6%........ He's been one of the best presidents on foreign policy issues.

I think it is fair to say that if Slim is italicizing anything it means that he is emphasizing that part of the passage. This could be interpreted as being his opinion or point trying to be made.

Add to that his history and the title he chose to put on this thread an I think we can all figure out where Slim is coming from by posting this thread.

ive written previously about how obama was like a spotlighted deer when the mission was proposed....how valerie jarrett was talking him out of it and how clinton said..."you can never make up your friggin mind barrack" and basically obama went ahead because it was good politics and he could blame someone else if it went bad.

real courageous....

I had the same thought,
then I had a better one !

Clinton :"You can never make up your friggin mind Barack."  I think this reveals the empathy that Obama was feeling about the inevitable results that such a decision foretold !

Subjective and baised speculation does not the truth make.

And as for the last statement, if the mission failed horribly and resulted in hostages or deaths, you better believe Obama would have been crucified.

djbrow,

Bullcrap, Leon and Hilary would have taken the blame. They were the ones who pushed the mission while Owebama drug his feet. He sure did jump to the podium to take the credit though.

Yes, the blame never lies at the feet of the President for failed missions.

Bravo.

And I also know people who were there and your version holds no water. If you want the truth, Obama made finding OBL a priority, against the wishes of the MIC and lifers at the State, who all knew that Afghan is a deck of cards and the removal of US presence would guarantee the fall of the weakly built US backed government. If you want further truth, Bush could have taken OBL out at any time as well. What history will show is whether he was smarter to do so.

And for all of your hero worship garbage, I probably think Bush was smarter on this and Obama did it solely for politcal gain.

But it is fun watching you make these accusations along with the statement that Obama wants business (and thus the economy to fail). It reminds me that even with your claimed degree, there really is little that separates you from Bowlslit.

In less than 4 years... President Obama has went from being seen by Scandinavians as worthy of a Nobel Peace Prize to an assassin and a terrorist.

Today 12 UK parliamentarians in a letter written to the United States said that the Britain and Western countries are under threat because drone attacks provide justification for future terrorist activities. The letter also stated that innocent people are killed in drone strikes.

The parliamentarians said that the attacks are creating hatred for the US amongst Pakistanis and they are also harming a British allied country’s sovereignty.

The London-based Bureau of Investigative Journalism added,, that there were credible reports of civilian casualties numbering between 385 and 775 civilians, including 164 to 168 children.

The Constitution forbids the government from depriving any person of life without due process of law; that is, arrest and fair trial. Yet President Obama has approved the killing of people, many of whom were not even identified before the kill order was given...........

Even the 39th President of the United States has denounced President Barack Obama for his “widespread abuse of human rights” by authorizing drone strikes to kill suspected terrorists. He cited the clear violations of 10 of the 30 articles of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights

The US has used drones to kill thousands of people in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia..I feel the US has a legitimate reason and legal right to conduct operations using drones in these countries..who have “safe havens” for groups that have launched violent attacks against the US and US interests...

well i have a different story and im not bullshitting about anything nor i am going to rehash an older fight. we should be able to have a discussion without making it too personal ( which i suppose i did).   history will reveal which one of us has the accurate version.
i suppose you could extrapolate hating capitalistic businesses to wanting them to fail.  certainly those not bowing to the government(gibson guitars) have had a rough go.  once again, history and hindsight will give us those answers as well.

That's the million dollar question, Slim. Whether or not the US is justified in it's use of drone attacks.

I'm under the belief that it is to put it mildly for similar reasons you've mentioned regardless of who is calling the shots.

bowlslit,
I certainly didn't intend to flip-flop(nor do i wear them),just acknowledging that I try to consider as many aspects as I can perceive within a given issue / situation;then think forward as correctly as possible,at least hopefully.

Slim,
you certainly thought that those same Scandinavians who thought Obama a worthy recipient of the Nobel Prise to be 'off their sleighs.' So why NOW do you act as if their disapproval of Obama's drone program cause you to seemingly be so concerned about their coldness ?

I'm sure you have a negative forecast,so pray tell !
