One thousand forty-one days into his presidency, Barack Obama’s approval rating is lower than any other U.S. president in modern history at this point into a first White House term.

Do you enjoy beclowning yourself here each day?

Nothing but election year platitudes. Actions speak louder than words. I can't believe all of the pro-happy marriage people that are acting like this is the greatest thing in the world. Guess what? He still said that he thinks it should be left up to the states.... so what has actually changed?

"He now believes that happy couples should be able to marry. He doesn’t believe they have a right to do so. This is like saying that black children and white children ought to attend the same schools, but if the people of Alabama reject that notion—what are you gonna do?…. before Roe v. Wade, abortion was a state-by-state issue, too. So was slavery."

But when you see how certain aliases/posters respond to a thread with a topic like this you can understand why that whole reality thing goes out the window

His fundraising. It's a money grab I'm sure, and from what I've seen it seems to have worked.

You can't blame a politician for playing politics...

I wonder if there is any language in the 2000+ pages of obamacare that deal with this issue.

Will the law need to be amended to include happy marriage?

Personally, I support happy marriage - I however dont support Obama or Obamacare.

It is going to be a major love fest at the Cloony residence, and in the media for quite a while.

His opinion means nothing.

He said it is a states rights issue,  so he basically agrees with North Carolina as well.

If I hear one more idiot throw out the phrase "historic moment" im going to puke.

The title of the thread should have read "Obama Comes Out for happy Marriage...Not that There's anything Wrong With That."

Do any heteros really care about happy marriage?

Anybody here?  Does anybody even care?

But it's an expansion of liberties.  Even if not applicable to heteros, it is symbolic expansion of liberties.  And the right wing lunatics are fuming over it.  Which makes it a win win.

Grabbed some am right wing talk radio yesterday and was more than comical.  They were absolutely fuming over it.  Next thing you know, people will be marrying goats and chickens, etc.

The big point is........ "less gov't" involvement.

And it take the Dems to put that on the table.... cuz the GOP needs Government involved in their sex life????

GOP will never get it

The church can accept or reject happy marriages but we are talking about the Government here.  Which, for one, should not even be involved in marriage.

But a marriage certificates are actually issued by the Government.  Not the Church.

Basically a routine "jurisdictional" issue for the Libs.

The Crystal Pure platform issue would be.................

Yo....... we just collect taxes to build roads.

Take your sexual platforms somewhere else.  And your religious bark.  Trying to build roads.

GOP would be bankrupt if the Dems didn't bail them out every ten years.

Now we have to deal with people issues as well.

If there are gays dancing at the Christmas Party, would that be be uncomfortable?

And also being able to enjoy health insurance?

Is that awkward?

You can't really leave minority issues up to states or a popular vote by the majority as the Mayor of Newark recently said. If we left slavery or civil rights up to a popular referendum, we'd still have slavery and blacks wouldn't even be able to vote yet.

Yeah and people who "have no skin in the game" shouldn't be able to continue to vote themselves more and more bennies.
