Regulars in the Politics Forum know where I stand with Obama.

When it comes to happy marriage I don't even care. If states want to allow two men or two women to marry then so be it.

Strategically, why on earth would he announce that? He may have lost the election today if it wasn't lost already. He did not get one vote with this announcement. Most people that actually campaign for happy marriage are liberal and were already voting for him.

This election hinges on the economy. If he thought every thing was OK and he was a shoe-in in November he would have waited to admit he was for happy marriage until after the election.

Any thoughts?

Fair question.  I'm for happy marriage, but would vote for Jerry Sandusky over Mr. Obama.  Not sure what he gains from this except "energizing the base" - and even that is only part of the base, because there's a big guy of the Democrat base that doesn't like happy marriage.  Oh well.  I guess that's why I'm not a political strategist.

This thread, and the posters thus far, gives me optimism to ensure that I make more money in this election than I did in 2008.

When I 'sell' my Romney futures of +2100 from 2010 after the Republican convention when I get Obama at -130, I will have people here (the ones with money) to thank for offering Obama at that price.

I personally think that it because he ran on a basic premise of "change" for groups like the GLBT community and has done little or nothing for them as they still cant get married and view as equal citizens with equal rights.

So he has to get the backing of the "gays and happy supporters" by bringing this up.  I actually dont think it is a bad idea as he is basically saying come out and vote again. And he s not going to get any dems and independents who voted for hm last time on the premise of change to bail by doing this.

I think he also knows that he might bait the GOP theocrats into reacting emotionally and playing them like puppets...  This then creates a fear reaction by the "GLBT community and GBLT supporters" to the emotional negative conservative reaction and then he plays both sides like puppets...

Not saying this a great move, but  dont really see the down side in this for Obama...

Thank you canosvp for bringing attention to the issue...  In the past the richardA alias who was the site's "Resident expert of happy issues" would have been all over this... But after he was banned you dont seem to as many threads about the happy issues he was so passionate about...

you can just see these politicians getting together with their team in a room where one of them says, mr. politician, the polls show you need to say this, or be stronger on that, and then you have an announcement like this.  my guess is someone told him that there is some group that feels slighted because he promised to be stronger on happy marriage and wasn't so he needed to make this announcement to shore up that group, especially after biden started talking about it.

we all know obama is going to say what he needs to say to get the W.  that doesn't make him unique in washington.

I know I don't post much around here any more, but jeez, I didn't see that coming.  Covers will soon be a totalitarian state.    That, and dl-numbers posted something sensible.    My whole world is exploding.

Probably decided to make it known following NC's ridiculous vote yesterday.  happy marriage will eventually happen and become fully accepted.  Even a lot of Republicans are warming to it.  I mean, Obama was to the right of person Cheney on this issue.

Its actually been two years. I imagine if I acted on it as much as you talked about your 'amazing' legal endeavors, the entire country of China would know.

Hopefully, you put some of that hard earned union money on Romney. I'm happy to link some matchup sites for you now that matchbook is gone.

Frankly, I expected better.  You're not often right, but you are often clever.  If you'd care to try again, I'll just pretend this post never happened.

This explains the timing of Obama's sudden epiphany on happy marriage, a big fund raiser in a few days hosted by Ricky Martin.

The guy will do anything for fundraisining and for a vote.

Got his behind handed to him in the primaries. Almost lost to a guy in prison. Actually beaten in many counties.

His buddy Lugar went down hard.

Hollywood was starting to turn against him and a lot of his donors/bundlers are happy.

He likely swings both ways.

He'll say anything. Pure opportunist.

The fucktard actually said the military is out there "for him"

It is always interesting to me how certain topics seem to elicit such bizarre and loaded reactions from certain posters...

And yet they'll vote for the guy who strapped his dog to the car roof.

This reminds me of our conversation on the patricia campion thread where sarasota was exposed for straight up plagiarizing...

Strategically Obama and the GOP have different goals and thus different strategies...

GOP need people who voted for Obama to decide to bail because  that what the GOP has something better to offer...

This is what liberals do in terms of trying to sway people into that their idea of change is necessary... and the conservatives them say that change is not necessary based on liberal drama or at least in their proposed fashion...

So simply attacking obama is not incumbent "change talk"... it has to be fluffy and feel good... So the strategy is that Obama is reacting to recent events to rally the "troops" (Gays and happy supporters)...

With an image of a stance that he is for them... and then will fall short on the promises in the end... but is simply a frightful reminder of what bailing or not voting would do for the Gays and happy supporters...

The most unpopular president in modern memory comes out in favor of an idea* that has been voted down in 30 states and you're clapping?

*Note: Obama had to drag it out of himself and still said states should have the right to vote on the issue.

Actually, this has to do with the fact that the happy bundlers threatened to withhold donations.

And immediately after the big annoucment (*GIGGLE*) Obama sent out a fundraising letter.

Um, I'm sorry you can't understand the point. But, since you're so proud of your ignorance, you may want to check into the approval rating pollis of previous Presidents at similar points in their first terms and note how Obama is lower than all of them.

You may also want to note the historic drubbing Obama's party took in 2010.

But of course that would involve critical thinking, a skill you simply do not have.

Thanks for participating.
