Because you're not allowed to do that, either,,,,,

link

A bill that nobody is paying any attention to is sailing through Congress: Senate Bill 1813. It passed the Senate by 74 to 22, and is expected to sail through the House as well. It’s an act “[t]o reauthorize Federal-aid highway and highway safety construction programs, and for other purposes.”

It’s the “and for other purposes” part of the title that has me worried—specifically Section 40304: “Revocation or denial of passport in case of certain unpaid taxes.

This section would give the IRS the power to keep a U.S. citizen from traveling—

—and it’s another example of Executive Power run amok. It’s another example of how the United States is turning into a police-state.

The right to travel freely is sacrosanct—it’s not some privilege that the government bestows on us: It’s one of our basic freedoms as citizens. In point of fact, the countries that have limited their citizens’ ability to travel—the Soviet Union, the People’s Republic of China, North Korea, Cuba—were all rightfully called “police-states”: It’s one of their defining characteristics—the fact that they were keeping their citizens hostage.

Welcome to the fascist states of the americas, one big open air prison, run by the police state. You are free, to operate within their strictly defined, and impossible to adhere to, set of rules. Freedom,,,,it's just another word

hope and change

bushs fault

there will be no leftist outrage, they're too busy clapping each other on the back, congratulating each other that "their" guy is gonna win again, demanding justice for trayvon, mad at those of us who prosper, and demanding more legislation

and the right is too busy trying to sell romney to a bunch of jaded racists

welcome to hotel america---you can check out any time you like but you can never leave

When we passed NDAA China actually took a page out of our book, passing a similar law.

When we start trailblazing the path for China in the human rights violation department, it is time to take a long hard look.

This is not a police state anymore.  It was a police state in the 80's  we are crossing over into abject Tyranny.

(Seriously) not trying to spin the conversation, this is what I was getting at in the other thread.

The 2nd Amendment isn't doing anything to stop tyranny. Just destroying millions of lives in the process of the USA crumbling under it's own greed, narrow-mindedness, and corruption.

Getting back to this thread, I think you guys have every right to be up in arms over the diminishing human rights record of this administration.

Well....

I think it would be interesting to know what 'certain' unpaid taxes means.

I do know that 'certain' money judgment awards can prevent the ower from traveling. That would make logical sense in many instances (i.e. someone has a money judgment award against in a large amount and leaves the country, etc.).

I think for those that do pay taxes, they would not be happy if the government was letting people who owed hundreds of thousands of dollars to leave and never come back.

Disco, Right now, it hasn’t reached breaking point. Once the robin hood nanny state left and the religious authoritarian right see that both sides are wrong and we see things as one and have had enough. Then a movement will begin.

We already saw a sample size with occupy wallstreet and the tea party movement. If those morph into one and the police start trying to enforce totalitarian law. The people will have a common enemy and will overthrow the government. The US military foot soldiers will side with citizens and the government will be forced to surrender.

How can the government fight armed citizens united and the US military at our side? No matter how old I get, I will fight for the american people if that was ever to happen. That’s what Abraham Lincoln meant when he said…

"This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it or their revolutionary right to dismember it or overthrow it."
~ Abraham Lincoln

You can’t do that without guns.

The government locks up more people than another country in the world. You think they give a darn about peace. This government kills it's own citizens for money.

Under the new act that was passed by the government, the government can kill or lock you up without a trial and say you are a threat to national security.

I’m sorry disco but you live in a fantasy world if you think a totalitarian government gives a garbage about rights and peace. darn that. As soon as I start to see full on swat gear police taking down citizens by the thousands and pepper spraying the masses, creating mass curfew and full on policed state barricades. It’s time to take our country back.

Look at how scary this video is. The police were preparing for all out war against the american people and beating the darn out of american citizens. The police forget they fuckin work for US “the people” not the government! You can’t negotiate with people who have guns and you don’t.

The people should have beaten the garbage out of those cops who acted like those people. Beating women and pepper spraying people in the eyes for protesting.

Damn right, I have the right to dismember or overthrow it. We the people! I wish every citizen would just stop working and charge washington and say you people work for us and don't you forget that. You've seen the LA riots and if we decide to take our land and country back we will if washington doesn't get its garbage together.

This is disgusting and shows the absolute direction our country is headed. Thank you for posting this, I hadn't heard or read about this yet.

Rooster give up the party bashing, its exactly what the people in charge want you doing anyway. You think it's a democrat/Obama thing when in reality this would go through regardless of either party being in the white house sans Ron Paul.

Remind me again who has majority of house and congress?

Some people look at everything as a conspiracy, this thread is a good example of that.

When I read this my first thought was "why"? not the anti-government viewpoint.

There is always judicial oversight. The decision of any Administrative agency has an appeal process.

As an aside, many other factors will prevent one from obtaining a passport (criminal convictions, owing child support, etc.). This act doesn't surprise me or concern me at all.

you know how that works. leave it open to interpretation, with a nice grey area

let's be honest here djbrow, me and you both pay taxes, and me and you both go to great lengths to make sure we pay the absolute minimum amount that we can, even if that means stepping out into the grey area

i can think of multiple scenarios as to why i wouldn't want the IRS having this kind of power. I mean, we all know that income taxes are as inefficient a means of funding government as one could dream up. Not to mention, counter productive, because they dis-incentive-ize working,,,,,,which is the last thing we need right now with the economy being what it is, and with the dollar being in the dumps and wages being so dreadful. No wonder we find ourselves where we are, today
