#1 Posted: 1/1/2011 3:07:26 PM I havent finished calculating last years contest results but here are the rules for this years contest.
-First picks must be made by the close of market on Friday Jan 14th
-Stocks must be on major market, no OTCBB or PK stocks
- Trades must be at market price, or closing price PRIOR to market opening (so if you make a pick at night it is based on market open price the next trading session) and prices will be verified as to the accuracy
- You can buy and sell FIVE round trips during the year, but cannot make an additional buy before the previous sell is placed
- New for this year, you can have TWO positions at a time, but at a 50% rate, so if you have two holdings they are for 50% of portfolio versus any other percentage. You must also specify this when making a trade, so if you want two holdings you have to state it when you buy..not after you have the first holding.
Winning calculations will be made as a percentage of gain, not based on the price of the stock.
Any questions feel free to ask, everyone is invited to join the contest.

Those are fine, good clarification. Only stipulation would be if the stock is listed on the TSE and had a spread that was reasonable.

Yeah unless it gets over 100 posts, then we will make a second.

#6 Posted: 1/2/2011 4:20:41 PM how do you score these?
Is it just 1 unit on (DRYS) or 1/2 unit on (DRYS) and 1/2 on (WFC)
or does everyone just start with 10000 funny dollars?

#7 Posted: 1/2/2011 5:19:39 PM Its up to 2 positions.
Not using a dollar figure, rather going off percentages.
If you want one position, just pick one stock..that equals 100% for your entry. If you want two positions, both now then state the two positions and it is 50/50. If you want two positions, one now and one later then state that as-
DRYS 5.60 50% second position TBD or whatever.
If you start at 1 position and do not claim it to be a 50% position, then you are 100% on that position until you close the trade..then you can do two or one on the next.
It probably complicates things but opening up the choice of two positions seemed to add a wrinkle to the contest, and having 5 open/close trades available seemed to make it more interesting too.

#9 Posted: 1/3/2011 1:07:33 PM You can have it at 2 bucks, it traded there today, so that is good with me.
Now that means 100% of your "portfolio" is QMM right?
If yes then before you take another position you have to trade out of QMM first.
If you want it to be a 50% position then you can do that and add a second stock etc at any time.

Yup..I will keep nibbling on the drop.
This move to 12k is phony, based on no fundamentals with leverage still existing, unemployment still extremely high, global uncertainty..
The market is a joke, and as we know it can stay a joke for an extended period..I am not going anywhere.

No, just make an entry, if the price is reasonable for when you posted the entry then I shouldnt have a problem.
