Boiler Room (2000) plays on the Fox Movie Channel Thursday Jan 24th @ 12 noon pacific time. really well acted "Wall Street" themed drama staring Giovanni Ribisi, Ben Affleck and Vin Diesel. IF you liked two "Wall Street" films with Michael Douglas as Gordon Gekko (or is it Mitt Romney?), you will enjoy this one. definately worth recording IF you have never seen it.

true BUT it's still a pretty well acted film esp by Giovanni Ribisi as the main character Seth Davis. I thought it had somewhat of a Glengarry Glen Ross (1992) feel to it in the characters, plot and acting.

btw, IF you have never seen Glengarry Glen Ross, IT is one of the best acted movies I have ever seen. I was really suprised it didn't do better at the 1992 Oscars considering the cast. Jack Lemmon as Shelley "The Machine" Levene won a bunch of smaller "Best Actor" awards BUT was not even nominated. Al Pacino as Ricky Roma was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar BUT won the Best Actor that year for "Scent of a Woman" and I doubt the Academy would "double dip" on major awards. also stars Alec Baldwin, Ed Harris, Alan Arkin and Kevin Spacey.

definately worth renting or recording if it's on TV

First prize is a Cadillac Eldorado. Anybody want to see second prize?
Second prize is a set of steak knives.
Third prize is you're fired!

Boiler Room was alright.. Not even close to Wall Street though

Glengarry Glen Ross is a masterpiece.  Boiler Room is for teenagers.

I worked for a regional broker in Houston back in the early 1980's. wasn't as crooked as the firm depicted in the movie BUT there was a LOT of similarities in the phone sales training I got and the pressure to "push" the firm's IPO's (although ours were REAL oil and oil service companies). also the somewhat "wild and crazy" social interaction. definately a LOT of "alpha" personalities in the business. we were a "work hard. play hard" company for sure.

btw, Nia Long as the secretary Abbie Halpert was definately tasty. in the real world they really RUN the brokerage companies.

I thought Boiler Room was a pretty good movie.  Wall Street is a classic so you really can't put the two in the same league.

Ribisi was the man here, Vin Diesel will always bring down a movie!
