I'm not sure what to think about this movie. It looks like they are trying to ride the coat tails of Alien and Predator franchises.

I noticed the marketing of the movie has attempted to increase the association with the Alien/Predator movies, a smart move for certain. They've got their hooks in me now.

Hopefully it's not a trap

Anybody else gonna see this flick?

there have been some other threads discussing this. it seems to be a "prequel" to Alien BUT without "facehuggers" jumping on people, "chestbusters" popping out and "xenomorphs" running amok.

from what I have read online, it seems to be "were the 'space jockey's', like the humanoid in the pilot's chair in the original Alien, the 'ancient aliens' that established life on Earth and were they now disappointed how their 'experiment' turned out and going to destroy us?" sounds like Charlize Theron as Meredith Vickers may be an "Ash" (Ian Holm in Alien) or "Burke" (Paul Reiser in Aliens) type character.

in any case, it's directed by Ridley Scott who did the original Alien and should be EXCELLENT

I'm a HUGE "Alien-Aliens" fan going back to the original in 1979 SO I may actually PAY to see this one in a movie theater

This movie will get me to go to the theatre, and I'm pretty sure I haven't been to the theatre since Batman 2.

Damn, even more Alien references.

This was some of the best marketing that I've seen in a while.

I'm jacked up to see this movie.

IF it's HALF as close to the original Alien for suspense and "startle" scenes, it will be OUTSTANDING.

open Saturday June 9th here in Las Vegas at one of our casino theater complexes. Mrs and I will probably go see it next week at a "geezer matinee"

The first scene where the space jockey is drinking from the canister, is he creating life on earth?

When the robot puts the black oil in Holloways drink, was he trying to create a human/alien hybrid monster for the weyland corp to bring back?
I didn't get that part.

Another question

Why does the space jockey/engineers want to kill them all in the end and why does he want to fly to earth to destroy the planet or population that they created.

If it's the same dude I'm thinking of, check out a movie called 'Hunger' about IRA prisoners.

Overall I liked this movie.

The beginning scene was pretty poor. I thought it was kind of weird to start off with and gave away far too much mystery at the beginnning.

Oddly enough, I was not a fan of Charlize Theron. She just didn't belong in this film. Her character was a stretch and I felt she was not believable in her role.

The connection to the aliens at the end seemed kind of forced.

The writing could have been better but this film is still worth a watch if you are a fan of the alien and predator franchises.

The old guy wanted eternal life. My guess is just had the android to it for shits to see if he got healthier or otherwise.

Ya there were far too many unanswered. My guess is that he had the munchies like a mother after being asleep for so long. He probably was gonna go get a rack of ribs or something until those fool rammed his ships, killing all parties the process.

I think that was exactly it, he was just going to get some food and they mistook it for himi going to Earth to clean up their failed experiment.

Overall, the movie didn't really do much for me, it had good cinematography and moved along at a good pace.  Just seemed to miss something overall.  Theron was miscast like you said and I don't get why they used a known actor like Guy Pearce to look unrecognizable playing the old dude.

That might be the most puzzling question of them all. What a waste of talent. Guy Pierce could have really had a positive impact on this movie if he wasn't playing some tiny, obsure role. garbage he looked like Johnny Knoxville in one of the Jack behind movies.

BTW the ship did not have the gritty feels of other movies in the franchise. It felt more like a glossed up VIP room with pool tables and Charlize Theron running around without a hair out of place.

It really makes you appreciate how well done the set was for the Alien movies, especially ressurection. Those  movies have such a gritty feel.

Yes, ressurection did kind of suck, but I was pretty young when I saw that. I must've been about 12 years old for that, must've snuck into the theater. I am speaking about the space ship inparticular though and its gritty feel. It was highley advanced though well lived in. It was not the glossed up VIP room from Prometheus.

just got back from viewing with the Mrs. it's definately NO Alien. seemed to drag somewhat early on. DID have some decent "startle" scenes BUT nothing close to the "facehugger" jumping on Kane (John Hurt) or the "chest buster" popping out of his chest in the original Alien. seemed that those scenes were more of a "Oh we better give the audience something to scream at" after thought.

It's worth seeing for a decent SciFi story and the CGI BUT I wouldn't put it in the top three of Alien or Predator style movies. was actually pretty disappointed

When you say Alien/Predator style, are you referring to just those two series? Alien and Aliens are tough acts to follow for sure. Are you sure expectations didnt cause this movie to disappoint you (not saying it did, you just seemed pretty excited about it)?  Might go check this out tomorrow.

don't get me wrong, TRAIN, it's an good SciFi movie with excellent CGI and was worth spending $4 to go see BUT I just didn't think it lived up to the "hype". quite frankly, I thought the 2009 British-German movie "Pandorum" I saw on TV recently was a better SciFi "suspense thriller"
