#3 Posted: 8/3/2012 11:04:08 PM and if you knew anything about sport you'd know that last week is not related to the next week. A simple mind trick that people make with betting, roulette especially. Thinking that if they keep going for red at some point they must be "due" but the fact is every spin has no relation to the last much like sport. The bulldogs are light years better than the Knights and will roll them

Whilst 9 wins in a row is mighty impressive, who have they beaten?
North Queensland, a good scalp but they can't beat time with a stick away from Townsville.
Manly - yep but Newcastle did likewise.
Parra - and?
Tigers - see Manly above.
Melbourne - granted, good win.
Saints - they wont make the 8 anyway
Souths - good win but Souths weren't travelling anywhere near as well as they are now. Souths had also already beaten them this year.
Roosters - see Parra above.
They caught Melbourne and North Queensland at home and haven't played any of the other games outside Sydney.
Nine wins is a great effort, especially in a comp as close as the NRL.
But to say the Dogs are light years better is an exaggeration imo.
Oh, and in round 4 at Homebush the Knights would have kept them to nil save for a try on the siren |

this is such a horrible argument, who do you want them to play the 1972 miami dolphins?
You could make excuses for pretty much any team about who they've beaten.
Oh my god who have the knights beaten? the terrifail raiders, the choking warriors etc etc.
There is a reason the dogs have the best points differential in the comp and the knights have one of -4.

#9 Posted: 8/4/2012 12:14:39 AM I was leaning Dogs to cover or 1-12 but seeing emkee, phatty and snake are all on Knights I'm not so sure now.
I agree on paper the Dogs are a better side but sides do have let down weeks after road trips, short turn arounds, big wins and can either sink or swim on losing a key player or two, being able to pick those anomaly games is a key to consistent winning. With the exception of Parramatta they are all professional athletes and any team can win on their day.
Plus Rostos is due for a fix/corruption rant thread which is the lock of the weekend if the Dogs lose the game/penalty count.

If the Dogs belt Newcastle in Newcastle, I will stand corrected that they really are 'light years better' than the Knights. |

I don't know, he's already started making excuses before the games even kicked-off.
Sydney may be spared a shotting spree after all
Rostos, come back son |

Don't let anyone elses picks influence or change your mind. That's something I've learned. It would have been so easy to talk myself out of taking the dogs against the sea eagles a few weeks back but I decided that it's much better to go with what you think is right

#16 Posted: 8/4/2012 1:16:37 AM Yeah I generally do just go with what my feel for the game, on a game like this where there's smart money going on the other side I'd rather lay off than follow others, rather not make a bet than make a dumb bet, especially when I've taken Storm to cover -12 and have a bunch of other bets riding on other sports. With rugby league most of you guys follow it far more intently than I have over the years and have a better handle on the players and teams and how they sit for the season. This is only my second season of betting on League week in week out. I fall into the trap at just playing what side is better on paper/historically and am struggling to hit 50%, lucky to be in the +
Albeit I played some stupid margin/total doubles early in the season and play margins a lot.
League gets about as much TV coverage in Melbourne as bacon ads in Saudi Arabia. If I have time I watch 1 or 2 games at most a week, mostly a turdy MNF stream if I miss the Friday night games on free tv or the late night sat night replays, just read the NRL.com previews, look for late mail on LU and study past history on nrlstats.
