Are you seriously asking this?
Why do people play the lottery? Why do people play blackjack, craps, roulette? |

well I guess probably a few years. I started playing online around 2003 like most people. I basically donked around not taking it too seriously until about 2005. Then I started really studying the game and blah blah blah and since 2006 Ive been winning steadily.
Theres just so many nuances and things that happen in the game that most recreational players just cant grasp/understand, as soon as something bad happens to them they just blame luck or the site. People are too results oriented, if they lost a hand they think they misplayed and if they won a hand they think they made the right move, when so many times that not the case.
I rambled a little there but reading this board and the common poker opinions on here, especially about online, its no wonder there are a lot of losing players |

#11 Posted: 4/18/2011 8:46:14 PM Absolutely, I dont know how much experience you have but none of these books could hurt. Also online training sites are a great way to learn also but after black friday Im not sure how much of an option any online poker is gonna be.
Anyways, heres a few books Ive read that will surely help. Some of it may be repetitive and basic but I guarantee you will pick up some things from each book that will help your game.
The Thoery of Poker by David Sklansky - This book is a good starting place because it really lays out the basic formula and goal when playing a poker hand. It teaches you that the decision is the important part, not the result
Super System by Doyle - this book is a little outdated but its the first real poker book of its time and if you plan on taking poker seriously you should at least read it once
SNG strategy by Colin Moshman - This book is great for a beginning SNG player
Theres obvioulsy lots more than that but thats a good starting point. Theres no doubt if you read those three books youd not only do better at the tables, but also be much more confident at the tables which obv will lead to even better results |

#12 Posted: 4/18/2011 8:52:04 PM theres an e-bbok out called "the poker blueprint" which is an EXCELLENT starting point but its basically all an online book so it may not be that valuable with todays online situation |

nah, nothing compared to most guys. I had $2300 on tilt and its till there, I can look at it!!!! Seriously tho, I'll get it someday, but it literally may be a year. Fulltilt isnt gonna ruin their rep with the rest of the world over our bankrolls. Most of the people who are screaming "your $ is gone!!!" really just dont know what theyre talking about |

#17 Posted: 4/22/2011 12:43:36 PM hmmmmmmmmmmmm two differnet types of gambling !
POKER you have control of what hands YOU play and can tell when you have winner lock hand
SPORTS you have no control over what happens in any game
any one player can totally kill you by going off against other players or spouting off dissing the other team before game starts or during the game !
THERFORE with these facts proven i'd have to Say with a solid bankroll behind YOU $50 thou minimum to sustain losing streaks that POKER is easier to make money with !
AT laest i seen with my friends when playing reg cash games not tournaments 7 card stud and holdem the higher limits win more days than they lose !
ME i'm grreen at poker still learning the game strategy i have lear ned one thing stay away from lucky players they will suck out on your monster starting hands every time and destroy your stack
However being a lady has it's advantages when i'm showing clevage and bare mid section
I have learned to pick up on tells from low limit players very good i can tell when they are stone bluffing or when they start a monster hand as in trips in 1st three cards like maybe 9's or 7's
and the others in hand do the raising for them with the big high cards showing aces kings queens jacks
many times i folded pocket 10's or Higher when catching these players betting quietly just calling not to draw attention to thier hands !

Hadt o quote this again for the hilarity
My favorite part is how you need a "solid bankroll behind you, like $50" or how he "picks up tells on low limit players knowing if they have rolled up 9s or 7s"

Another gem here
So fold AA preflop if youre up against one of these "lucky players" cuz theyll surely suck out on your monster "every time"
More donkish words have never been spoken
Up there with "my aces always lose" and "everyone always hits their draws on me"
A clueless donk giving advice, just ridiculous, and theres always the lying and spamming too!!! |

#24 Posted: 4/23/2011 7:26:17 PM This is like asking what's easier, bowling or golf? Or being a lswyer vs. doctor? It's personal preference and talent. For more people, poker is probably easier. Personally, I find sports betting to be easier. But that's just me. There are so many factors, too numerous to go into detail. But to be honest, and no offense intended, if you have to ask, you probably can't win at either.

#25 Posted: 4/24/2011 11:43:20 PM poker ,but i do both full time usually when im crushing one, im tilting in the other so far since super bowl this year, im a friggin big loser in sports, and a steady winner in poker, the thing is im putting way more time into studying sports watching games grinding out halftime plays, and im losing! it sucks ,why do i keep going at it, i love to compete, and i know im on a downsing and its a matter of time before my tsunami run on sports wipes away this years debt and puts me in the green.with that said im sitting here in boxers sweating laker game, thinking about going to a poker room but after watching sports and smoking dope all day ,i dont feel my sharpest, for me i try to stay away from poker when im not very fresh, it can make a world of difference, now if i go to bed sleep ,wake up ,put a good workout in and eat well,i KNOW ill make better, smarter decisions |
