#6 Posted: 9/17/2009 7:08:13 PM What is the point of asking.......most people will say they are up and in all actuality most are probably down.
However in this thread people will say they are up and will be trashed for it, even though there is no way of proving one way or the other if what they say is true.
I've been playing poker for 20+ years........I really sucked when I started and my game has improved over the years....up or down, doesn't matter to anyone in the world except me.
Kind of like a golf score or your golf handicap, the only one who really cares about it is you I'm really not trying to be an behind, but I feel to see the point of this question. |

Would you tell a friend/family member/random person the truth if they asked you this question? What if they asked you how much you are down/up, would you be totally honest?
You've been playing for 20+ years If you could go back in time and get back all the money you spent would you have ever started playing poker in the first place? Or do you think you are better off since starting 20+ years ago?

I didn't say if I was up or down.......I said I was the only person who cared.......and I am.
And as for my family well, they have a pretty nice house, eat whenever they want, have several TV's to watch, take decent vacations, go to good schools.......I certainly don't think the amount of money that I've made/lost playing poker even enters their minds.
What is this crusade you're on Barry? |

#12 Posted: 9/18/2009 9:37:37 AM I'm up only because I won a few big tournaments. Without those I'd probably be down in cash games.

Other people care, you're just the only one effected by it.but I care to know how you've done in 20+ years I'm sure people close to you would find it interesting to know also, but they won't ask because of the chance of offending a losing gambler..
It's nice that your family is blessed with money, so I'm sure they won't mind if you're playing poker for some crumbs (whats crumbs to you might be cookies to some)
It's very important for me to know the answer to these questions
If you could go back in time and get back all the money you spent would you have ever started playing poker in the first place? Or do you think you are better off since starting 20+ years ago?
I'll tell you my crusade once we get going

#19 Posted: 9/18/2009 6:52:48 PM Dingle, what about people that have donated money to churches that was supposed to go to help poor people that they used to payoff lawsuits for priests raping underage children, as well as, the following cover up? To me, it seems like quite a gamble to donate to a church under the pretense that it will be going towards helping underprivileged individuals. At least with playing poker, you know exactly where your money is going, either in my bank or the other players.

People that donate money to churches are doing a good thing.
People making donations and the church supplying the donations to those in need is a team, just like any other team
In the NFL.. all the WR can do is run his route to the best of his ability He can't worry if the center is going to smoothly get the ball to the QB He can't worry if the line is blocking their man to protect the QB He can't worry if the QB is going to scan his way or not
All he can do is his part, and if his team keeps letting him down, he should move or go to a team he can trust. but he certainly should quit! Not if he can still play, not if he still wants to play!
So if you found out for a fact the church you donated money to used it improperly, you should call them out and/or move to another church that you can trust in.
unless you just don't feel like dishing out the doe Then you're just like an unhappy Randy Moss jogging his routes

Do you really know where it is going?
If it's online, how do you know its not a bot that bad-beat you? maybe it's a guy that has a hack to see your cards?
or how do you know the guy is not going to use his poker winnings for terrorist bombs? maybe poker is how bin laden gets though his mornings and you just funded his next terrorist attack

I did for a while but I really don't play that much anymore, just a couple live games a week. I still play online but not everyday like I used to.

#23 Posted: 9/19/2009 2:05:35 AM Alright, I'll play along Barry. I think for the first four or five years I was down significantly.......I think for the next four or five I was about even or possibly down slightly and since then I am up, some years a relatively significant number. Over 20 years I'm probably up a bit, or at least up more than down. Whether or not it's crumbs or cookies is a bit irrelevant to anyone but me. One man's crumbs are another man's cookies.....I know I have had an online account that I opened in 2003. I have only deposited once to fund the account and withdrawn multiple times. So I'm not down there in that timeframe. Cash games I know that I am up since 1999/2000 but there is no way to prove it to anyone. I play for fun and it's a hobby. Along with golf they're really my two main distractions from the everyday grind. My wife and kids love me and I spend much time with all of them. I feel like I balance my work, family and hobbies very well. Everyone may not agree, but if I died tomorrow I'd be satisfied. I have no idea why I am justifying myself to somebody online, but I'm intrigued with where you are going with this and I'll go along to find out. |

How do I know that my donation to the church didn't go to the defense/payoff for 100's of priests that raped children?
Do you really know where it's going?
